Summary
Richie could afford to make a full-time job out of waiting around for Eddie. The love he felt had solidified long ago, turned into an iridescent insect trapped in amber in place of a heart; it wasn’t going anywhere. It was fine.
But Eddie didn’t have the luxury of screening his manager’s calls or fucking off across the country the way Richie had. Where Richie was happy to feed him breakfast and shirk responsibility, Eddie had a job to try to keep, a wife to try to lose, and plenty of unprocessed trauma to caulk the gaps in between. If only Richie could’ve picked up on it sooner, they might still be in their perfect little bubble.

“Well, it wasn’t last week, it was twenty sodding years ago,” Crowley says, reaching again for his coffee mug, miraculously piping hot and topped off with a quickness. “What’s gotten into you all of a sudden about kids? This is—weird.” He flaps his free hand through the air and makes an odd face. “Uncharacteristic, really. Can you do exorcisms on angels? I may need to make a few calls.”
Aziraphale draws in a steadying breath and then lets it back out again. His shoulders drop, his feet are firmly planted flat on the floor in his slippers. He folds the crossword section in half with a perfect crease and looks up at Crowley sitting across from him.
“I think I’d like to have a baby,” the angel says.

“Aw, shucks, you’d really do all that for little ol’ me?” Richie fawns in his best-worst Southern Belle voice.
Eddie is offscreen washing his hands in the kitchen sink when he says “Yeah, dumbass, I have disposable income, and the office can cope without me for like two and a half days.”
“You’re serious?” Richie asks quietly, a little overcome.
“Yeah, man,” Eddie says, stepping back into frame. “Only if you want me to, though, I mean—” His eyebrows come in for a worried landing over his eyes, as they often do, and Richie loves them when they do that but he does not want to miss out on the opportunity to have Eddie in his house instead of on his grainy cell phone screen.
“No, I want you to!” Richie says frantically. “I insist, Eduardo. Come to California.”
Eddie’s smile pops up, just briefly, a flash of white pixels as he looks down at his hands. “Okay,” he says.

Summary
Eddie grabs a bottle of Elmer’s and starts tracing each letter with glue. There’s a dopey, sort of proud feeling in Richie, watching him carefully craft the letters of his name. More than when he spells out Because (which really sucked for Eddie) or Bastard (a recently learned swear.) He feels all warm and fuzzy because it’s him that Eddie chose to make his spare valentine for, since he didn’t have a dad and a mom. He could of picked Bill or Stanley, gnashing away on the other side of the table with their pinking shears, or the teacher- but he picked Richie.

People usually have to pay for this kind of mental clarity. It's the kind of thing he sees promoted on billboards through expensive seminars, the kind of thing people who backpack around the world or spend a year meditating in a monastery talk about but all Eddie had to do was die. Now all that's left is to chase that feeling for the rest of his life - which is maybe easier said than done.
