Elros’ first instinct, when confronted with the unexpected transformation of his erstwhile guardians into tiny Elflings, was apparently to kidnap them.
Elrond’s first instinct, as it turned out, was to follow his brother’s lead.

Summary
It could only be one person.
Every member of the house of Finarfin that stood alive and whole on that side of the sea was there. Each had received a Maia-borne summons to attend to the return of a beloved one from the halls of Mandos.
And there stood also dusk-haired and sober Gwindor, darkly-clad, who had likewise been summoned to attend the return. Therefore, it could only be one person.
Gil-Galad, Gwindor repeated fiercely in his head. You mustn’t say the old name. He doesn’t like the old name.

Summary
There were two young Finwëan men named after stars living with Círdan at the end of the First Age. One of them, Eӓrendil, abruptly disappeared, his fate known only in legends. Around the same time, the other, Gil-galad, abruptly *appeared*, his origins shrouded in myth.
But like they say of Superman comics… there’s no way Clark Kent could be Superman. We all know where Superman lives—what would he be doing running around in disguise? That’s ridiculous, right?
Right?
*Look. It wasn’t like Eӓrendil had planned to disobey (another!) edict of the Valar, fake his death, lie about his identity, cheat fate, meet his apparently-not-dead sons, and become the king of the remaining Exiles. It all just… snowballed.* -

Summary
At the dawn of the Third Age of Middle Earth, Elrond withdraws to his valley - quite certain that he has been altered too much by the war for him and Celebrían to be anything but friends.
Celebrían just wants him to ask her to marry him already, so she takes matters into her own hands.

Summary
Nan Elmoth was dark, but it was never quiet. The massive, empty new house Turgon gave Maeglin upon getting settled in Gondolin is very, very quiet. Maeglin didn’t really go looking for people to fill it up with, but they sort of happened anyway. Somewhen along the line, those people became a family, and family, unlike detached lords and distant uncles, understands when a person is hurting.

Summary
It’s not Daeron who catches Maglor eventually. That honor goes to Thranduil, who’s willing to fight him tooth and nail over the last family-sized plastic barrel of cheese puffs in the this-shit’s-not-good-for-you isle of a Dollar General in the middle of nowhere, Ohio (there’s another Dollar General within three miles of the place, and nothing else).
Or: Arda is a breathtaking, bittersweet, war-torn mess, and Thranduil feels a bit silly for ever imagining he could fade so easily in such a place. Valinor has never particularly called to him, but it's beginning to look like time to go and see what all the fuss is about.

Summary
People stared at her in Valinor. It was not that scars were unheard of, but few had scars so dreadful as hers. Even with all Elrond’s talent, there was no hiding what she had endured.
Celebrían sailed to Valinor to find healing, but she does not find it. Lorien does her no good and many elves there are unused to scars like hers.
There is one elf, though, with scars like hers. Maedhros quickly proves that Elrond's memories of him were nearer to the mark than the horror stories she has heard and Celebrían finds herself adopted by the Fëanorians.

Summary
"What does it feel like, seeing an evil you have fought for so long finally vanquished?"
"Like a hole in the head," Elrond laughs, and then the words come all at once. "Can you believe it, Bilbo? I feel a loss. Loss, and lost. I do not know where to go, or perhaps I have nowhere left to go. I am turning on the spot, rootless and restless from memory to memory like a dog chasing its tail. I feel as though Arda has swallowed me whole. Perhaps I may be going mad —"
"Or perhaps you are being called home."
_________Two weeks before Arwen and Aragorn's wedding, the father of the bride (and groom, technically) wakes with a bone-deep fatigue he cannot seem to shake no matter how much he tries. Or: a study of sea-longing feat. Elrond Peredhel, who has never cared much for the promise of Valinor.

Summary
What to do with a wholly unexpected – largely undeserved – victory?
--
Maglor would have promised to carry them both away from here, to bury them somewhere beautiful, but it was not something he could offer. Even in the most conservative estimate, thousands had died that day, and each of them deserved to be honoured in a place of beauty, not of horror. “Then we will make this place beautiful, and make it worthy of him.”

Summary
"Surely not." At the sound of his voice the great shaggy shape stirred, and turned its head. Behind him Asar called out, asking a question, but Maglor barely heard him. He fell to his knees in the wet sand, staring into eyes that gleamed with ancient Treelight and even older starlight. Then his face was being licked clean of tears by a giant tongue, and he was both laughing and crying as he flung his arms around the dog's shoulders, burying his face in wet fur, hardly caring that it was still crusted with sand that scraped against his cheeks. "Huan, what are you doing here?"

Summary
Bullet-point fic about how everything would have gone if Maglor and Maedhros died first, instead of last of the Sons of Feanor.
Celegorm and Curufin sacrifice themselves to the greater good. Caranthir is surprisingly good with children (and a good thing too). Law books do not make good bedtime stories.
Elured and Elurin get to live. Gil-Galad gets to keep his sister. Celebrimbor has so many adopted cousins.
Sauron is, as usual, himself. It's going to be interesting, at least.Bookmarked by elphabun
