That was how the world remembered one of the most wicked eldar in their history. It was his place in the books - as written by the survivors of Gondolin.
If one was to asked Maeglin himself, he would agree.
The Valar, on the other hand, wouldn't.)
Lomion.
(An orphaned child, not yet grown. A young ellon, lost in a world that had already cast him in their prepared paints. A voice, silenced, tears drowning the words of a story never told.
Until the Valar degreed that he will have another chance to find happiness.
(Maeglin, most sincerely, never agreed.)In the end, it comes down to this: Maeglin Lomion died, and he wanted to remain in the Halls to pay for his failure - only to find that Lord Namo re-embodied him against his will. Hiding in the comforting woods of an unfamiliar world, he knows what awaits him when the people of Gondolin find him. And he accepts that. It isn't until he is violently renounced by his mother that he finally finds the strength to face his perceived fate - only for nothing to go as he thought it would.
(And there is more than one being who won't let things end like that.)Series

The One Ring, lost for two thousand years, resurfaced; a mysterious shadow once again shrouded the forest; Ithilien of Gondor was plagued by mysterious evil creatures; the Watchful Peace was on the verge of collapse.
History seemed to be repeating itself, and the past of Gondolin still lingered in the Third Age.
In the Mirror of Galadriel, Glorfindel saw a white city, and the figure he had yearned for day and night. Just like in his countless nightmares, Ecthelion did not turn back.

Summary
After his mother's death, Maeglin had to navigate life in the city of Gondolin alone. His uncle was nothing but cold towards him, his cousin cruelly refused his love, and the people of the city turned their backs on the dark elf. Hatred festered in him, warped his mind to anger and cruelty, until an unlikely opportunity presented itself.
In return for giving up the location of the hidden city of Gondolin, the Dark Lord promised Maeglin the crown, but that was not all the dark elf wanted. With the House of the Mole at his back, his lover beside him, and his uncle chained beneath him, Maeglin starts his rule of the new Gondolin. As he works to rebuild and unite the city of elves, men, and orcs, there are dark forces at work that threaten his rule.
