Regrettably, the first thing that Hongjoong noticed about him was that he was extremely gorgeous. It wasn’t uncommon for vampires to be pretty, Hongjoong guessed, it was about the same rate as humans, but this one stuck out. He was so beautiful it almost seemed fake, but he didn’t have any of the obvious trademarks of the beauty spells some people used. He was genuinely ethereal.
Hongjoong dug his nails into his palm briefly to keep from thinking about that for too long. He needed to keep his head on straight. Just because this vampire was attractive did not mean he’d be a good person, and Hongjoong wasn’t going to let himself be taken advantage of.
He cleared his throat as he got in range of the vampire, who looked up and gave Hongjoong a polite smile, tucking his phone into the small purse at his side. “Ah, you must be Hongjoong.”
“You must be Seonghwa.” Hongjoong said, a little surprised when the vampire stuck out a hand for a shake.

“This is so stupid,” Seonghwa mumbles to himself as he rummages through the spare drawer he hasn’t touched in who knows how long. “So fucking stupid— gotcha!”
He fist pumps the air when he manages to pick up the piece of paper that hasn’t seen the light of day in years, but has never left his mind. Seonghwa blows the dust off the paper and rolls his eyes when the list’s title comes into view.

It would take the de-transfiguration team weeks to restore the damage he had done.

The great wizard Kim Hongjoong doesn't have issues controlling his magical abilities. Unless it's for cooking. Or washing the dishes. Growing up, Hongjoong had heard whispered tales about the Manyeo, a cult of dark magic users that were stolen as children and moulded to become monsters. Some say that they trade their souls for power, some say that they kill anyone who sees them, some say that they're just a myth to make children behave. Once he became an adult, a pirate captain, Hongjoong had passed the Manyeo off as being figures of fiction.
But the man locked in an enemy ship's brig had all the signs: the tattoos down his back, the dye that stained his fingertips, the clothes and weapons and jewellery. Maybe he really was a Manyeo, and maybe that was why his lips had been sewn shut. You can't cast spells if you can't speak.
If he had been a wise man, Hongjoong would have killed the stranger while he was weak. "Do you miss being human?"
Seonghwa picks at one of his scales, letting his nail catch the underside of it and push upwards with just enough pressure that it stings. He mulls over how honest he wants to be, knowing that any sign of weakness could easily be used against him.
But nostalgia paints his memories in a bittersweet, rosy glow. The calm before the storm, when all he had to worry about was whether or not he'd get in trouble for sneaking out at night. When his world was so much smaller and his happiness had a name and a beautiful, dimpled smile.
"Of course," Seonghwa whispers. He casts his gaze on Hongjoong once more, swallowing around the sudden tightness in his throat.
Hongjoong's eyebrows raise by just a fraction, but the rest of his expression remains neutral. Non-judgemental. He pulls out his notebook again and flips through the pages until he finds what he's looking for. When he holds it up, Seonghwa finds the same hourglass drawing from earlier. "Would you do anything to return to that time?"
Or: A journey to find the treasure that will turn back the hands of time and reverse the consequences of their actions. No matter the costs.
