“I don’t want to intrude.”
“You’re not intruding at all.” MJ unlocks her door and steps inside, gesturing with her head for him to follow. “Besides, I’m just repaying you for the flowers.”
“You don’t have to,” Peter insists. “I was just being nice.”
“Then I’m being nice too. Come on. I have too much food and only myself for company.”
She holds up the plastic bag in her hand, where Peter can see two boxes of takeout inside.
“Okay,” Peter agrees, his hunger winning against his common sense. “Thank you for having me.”
Peter has done a good job avoiding Ned and MJ for the past four years. Until they both moved in across the hall and began inviting him for meals and giving him leftovers (suspiciously looking freshly cooked). He really shouldn’t get involved in their lives anymore, but Peter Parker is broke, hungry, and can’t resist the temptation of delicious food and the chance to talk to his friends again.
Or: Healing and loving through awkward leftovers, impromptu lunch hangouts, and maybe admitting Peter’s not quite satisfied with his life as he thought he was.

Peter’s life feels like clockwork. He spends the day at his normal job, volunteers at FEAST three times a week, and patrols most evenings. He does everything he can to not be home alone with his thoughts, too worried that the feeling like a failure will seep in the longer he’s alone.
It's only when Ricardo, the manager of FEAST, provides an update that Peter realizes he's spiraling.
“I’ve decided to hire a PR agency to help us gain a bit of attention in the area, which will hopefully drive more support and get us more funding to expand and help more than just Queens.”

Peter feels his cheeks heat as he snaps his gaze up from her shoulder to her eyes. “No…sorry, I— The streaks of red in your hair, your…your daughter has the same ones. I just noticed, that’s all.”
“Oh.” She squints at him sceptically. “Are you about to tell me they’re against dress code policy?”
Peter thinks it’s bold of her to assume he’s read the dress code policy. “Um…I don’t think so.”
“Good. Because I wouldn’t really care anyway.”
“You know, I got that vibe from you.” Peter nods, smiling as she relaxes, breathing out a laugh. “Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot.” He offers her his outstretched hand. “Peter Parker.”
Her fingers close around his. “Michelle Jones-Watson.”

MJ might not spend the most amount of time in the tower but she is fairly certain that he does not.
Through some cosmic intervention, Peter Parker is apparently a person her father trusts enough to say, “Peter, this is my daughter, Michelle… Although, you two seem to know each other already. Anyone wanna catch me up on that?”

When he’d been arrested and tried, May had begged him to keep his head down.
‘Don’t pick fights, don’t talk back, and Peter please. Please. Do not cause trouble that’s going to keep you there any longer than you have to be.’
He had done his best keeping his promise to her during this time - four years, arrested and found guilty of obstruction of justice - but he wasn’t in prison anymore.
Peter Parker was a free man, and he is tired of holding his tongue.
