His eyes coast across the printed out text but none of it registers. The words fly past him, fluttering somewhere in the back of his mind as if they've just sprouted wings. Lestat is sitting on the bottom of Louis' bed, his back leaning against the wall.
Louis has read the same sentence twelve times now.

Summary
Louis’ hand is cold when Lestat holds it, his face like ice when Lestat touches his jaw. His heart hammers against his ribs.
Instinct kicks in.
Lestat slits his wrist with a sharp nail, bringing it to Louis’ unmoving, beautiful lips, letting blood spill over his chin like a cascade.
“What are you doing?!” Gabriella again. Her voice irritates him.
“He needs my blood,” Lestat answers, not taking his eyes away from Louis’ still figure.
“What? You’re not well enough to do this, Lestat!” Cookie’s voice now. “You lost a lot of blood, they’re giving him blood already, there’s no need—”
“He needs mine!” He shouts, losing all composure, only then feeling the tears angrily stream down his face. He thinks of Louis’ reaction to the taste of his blood at the bar, the first time that century. His hollowed cheeks, eyes rolling to the back of his skull. Lestat wants to fall to his knees and weep. “I know it, he needs mine. It’ll help him! Just… Just let me do this…”

It was cold in the desert after the sun went down. But some nights, Louis woke just early enough to feel the heat of the day still bleeding from the sand under his bare feet. Evening primrose bursting yellow under moonlight in the flower boxes that lined half the perimeter of their trailer. Fang marks ever-healing on the line of his neck, the tender flesh of his inner thighs. They’d been living for months out in the Nevada wilderness all alone, and all they seemed to do was fuck and eat and fight and tend the flowers.
Louis turned his face to the moonlight, shut his eyes, breathed the lingering daylight warmth inside him, let it fill his lungs to near-bursting. He sensed Lestat at his back before they were touching, the thump of his heart the ever-present song of the desert. The sand, the moonlight, the flowers, and him.
Or: The one where Louis and Lestat run away to the desert together.

Louis took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to say next. “What happened in that tower, Lestat?” When he didn’t speak nor turn around and walk out the door, slamming it behind him, Louis continued. “I need to know, when I brought Armand to you in that place, and I brought him up because I wanted to hurt you, how much did I hurt you?”
Lestat stared at him quietly, his eyes going wide for just a second before returning to normal. His face remained uncomfortably neutral when he eventually spoke. “Not much,” he said. “But a little.”
It was the way he sounded so perfectly calm that had Louis wanting to call bullshit.

“Oh, you know,” Louis says, watching the three dots of a new text pop up. “He knew Daniel was… important to me.”
He means to say it with rueful annoyance, as if to say, “so he ruined him.” But as Daniel’s text comes in—the most important question I should have asked you in that fucking interview: where do you buy coke in Dubai?—Louis’s voice trails off, his words maybe lacking some of the bite.
