Summary
The ship stinks. It stinks of bodies he doesn’t recognise, it stinks of unfamiliar food, and even the wood smells different - the smell that the salt water brings out. It’s all wrong and he hates every inch of this ship. They will burn it into the ocean, he thinks, when-
He rounds a corner and freezes.
The brig is small, with barely enough room for a man to lie down fully stretched out. But the man in there isn’t lying down, he’s huddled in the corner with his arms around his head, curled in on himself as though he can somehow protect himself like this. Izzy grips the bars on the door, suddenly lightheaded. He thinks he might collapse at the sight of the tattered purple-striped shirt, hanging far too loosely off bony shoulders.
“Roach?” he whispers hoarsely.
After Izzy rescues Roach from weeks of imprisonment and torture, he finds that recovery involves more that just the healing of physical wounds. It takes time and patience. Things pirates generally don't have the luxury of having.

Summary
The Revenge is lost in the Sargasso Sea, near the Bermuda Triangle. They suspect that they've fallen out of time - the sky is wrong, the sea is too blue, and every time somebody is alone they hear a voice that whispers... things to them. Things nobody has any business knowing.
Roach hears his birth name spoken for the first time since he considered himself a child, and so when Buttons tells everybody to pair off, he's more than happy to get buddied up with Izzy Hands, if it means he doesn't have to hear it again.
The two feral men of the Revenge deal with mounting tensions in close proximity in the only way they know how: By biting and scratching and screaming their way out.

There are, at times, moments where Stede needs to lose himself fully in Ed.
Moments where focusing on the world outside of the two of them gets to be too much. Moments where being stuck inside his own head is even worse. He needs to stop worrying, to stop thinking, to let Ed take control. Let him think for him, let him tell Stede what to do until Stede can't think of anything except for Ed's hands on him, his scent surrounding him, his voice giving gentle but firm instructions. He needs the world to narrow down to Ed, until his mind is silent of all things but the desire to please him.

All the thoughts swimming around in Izzy’s head seem to come to a standstill as Stede’s other hand reaches down to take his cravat in a firm hold. The thumb that was in his mouth now replaced with Stede’s pointer and middle fingers. Day drunk, Ed told him the truth with only a little bit of editing, focusing less on the murderous fantasies and more on the psychology of killing, the way his body had to operate separately from his mind, which he felt pretty confident that Stede could understand on some level.
