“What... what the fuck is going on?” Alhaitham hissed, glaring harshly at the man that Kaveh had thought was Alhaitham himself - albeit infected with a buggy side effect of the Akasha.
Kaveh pointed between them, ignoring Alhaitham’s question and demanding, “why the fuck are there two of you?”
Redtham’s lips curved into a pout that was utterly foreign on Alhaitham’s usually inexpressive features and scooted back toward Kaveh; but Kaveh just shoved him away again, eyes flashing as he held his blankets up around his body like a shield.
Redtham huffed petulantly and reluctantly tore his eyes away from Kaveh to snap, “what does it look like, you moron? What, did you expect me to leave him all alone in here when all you want is for him to come on your face, and all he wants is for you to set up a permanent residence between his thighs? I’m just showing your princess everything you want to do to him, but don’t have the balls to. And here he is. Right in front of you. Fucking whimpering for you.”

In an effort to go on the rebound, Kaveh downloads an app to meet hot young singles in his area. Apparently, his area means his apartment. But Kaveh doesn't know that, and neither does Alhaitham.
Or, they break up and start sexting each other on an app without knowing it.

Alhaitham didn’t turn. “Hello to you too.”
“You’re on the panel.”
“Yes.”
“And you’re back in Sumeru.”
“My residency ended.”
Kaveh exhaled through his nose. “Of course.”
A year after an awful blind date, Kaveh ends up on a university panel with Alhaitham. They haven’t spoken since, but now they’re forced back into each other’s proximity—first onstage, then over email, and eventually in person, again. It goes about as well as expected.

Summary
The problem, Kaveh decides, wasn’t just that Alhaitham had no range, even when the similarities were so close all he’d have to do was change his name. It was that Nilou somehow expected him to fix it. Performance chemistry was not something you could brute-force by proximity and stubbornness and sheer willpower. Kaveh has already spent a full semester proving that Alhaitham was biologically immune to charm.
Nilou rubbed her temples.
“Okay, look. You’re actors—well, one of you is. You’re meant to create illusions. Maybe just… pretend you don’t hate each other? And then hate each other when it calls for it.”
“We don’t hate each other,” Kaveh snapped.
Alhaitham, beside him, nodded agreeably. “I simply find him taxing.”
In Sumeru University’s production of Barefoot in the Park, Kaveh’s original scene partner breaks a leg. Literally. His insufferable roommate steps up to the plate. Only: they have zero chemistry and turn to alternatives, i.e, method acting.
But it’s fine, they’re adults. What could go wrong?

Summary
Alhaitham studied him for a long moment before his fingers curled around Kaveh's wrist, his touch electric. Kaveh stared at him, eyes slightly wide as he lifted his wrist, choosing to do that instead of simply taking the glass from him. As Kaveh watched him draw it higher, until the glass was even with his lips, he found himself enraptured, his attention caught like an insect in sap. However, as he stared, the logical part of his mind finally caught up.
"That's not a good angle." He breathed, watching how Alhaitham's brows lifted, his eyes sliding to the wine glass, his mind seemingly considering his options.
"I suppose it isn't." Alhaitham mused, his eyes sliding to Kaveh as he leaned in, scenting the air.
Alhaitham sees fit to tease Kaveh in public and is more than happy to deal with the consequences once they're alone.

Summary
When Kaveh announces that he’ll need to temporarily stop taking suppressants, Alhaitham assumes that he must be an omega. After all, that’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would have pretended to be a beta for all this time. It’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would ask Alhaitham, an alpha, to leave the house for two weeks.
Except Alhaitham has made a rare miscalculation—and helping Kaveh will be much more difficult than Alhaitham expected, when his own instincts keep pulling him in two different directions.
“To clarify,” Alhaitham says, “you’re saying you’ll feel safer if I’m not here. Do I have that correct?”
“That—that’s not exactly what I said.”
“You said that you don’t know if it’s safe. That implies a degree of uncertainty, which means that you’ll feel less uncertain—and therefore safer—if I’m not around.” When Kaveh doesn’t respond, Alhaitham adds, “I’m just making sure I understand the situation correctly.”
“To be honest,” Kaveh says, “I don’t think you understand the situation at all.”

After getting fired from a prestigious architecture firm, Kaveh moves back to his hometown to raise his five-year-old brother only to find that an old college "acquaintance" is his little brother's kindergarten teacher.

Kaveh needs to stop thinking.
After being friends with benefits, Kaveh realizes that a house is not a home without Alhaitham. Or, Kaveh decides it's time for Alhaitham to do something about the fact that Kaveh's fallen in love and wants to share a bond with the only person who makes him feel alive. They get there eventually.
