Summary
Louis blinks his eyes open, his eyelids fluttering as the room swims around him. He takes several gulps of beer once he confirms that he’s definitely not hallucinating, that the very first portrait Harry Styles ever painted of him is hanging on that wall.
Louis stares at the wall, his heart jackrabbiting in his chest as he realizes that there’s not just one painting of him, there’s five, the portraits lined up like they’re some sort of storyboard depicting the rise and fall of his deepest love. His greatest heartache. A pain that cut him so deep that he left the fucking country, severing all ties with his life in New York, now suddenly surrounding him as if he’d never left.
Fucking shit motherfucker fuck.
Louis returns to New York City five years after he left it – and the love of his life – behind. He didn't intend to see Harry again, but fate has a funny way of pulling them together, whether they like it or not. After making a begrudging truce, they both start to wonder: Would it be so bad if history repeated itself?

And then he’s gone. Harry watches him take off his shoes, sort his belongings into bins, and keeps watching until he vanishes entirely, around the corner to his gate. Louis doesn’t look back and Harry can’t blame him, certain his expression, body language, entire being would implore him to stay. It would just make it more difficult on both of them. Louis’ always been intuitive like that, strong enough to make the hard decisions that protect both of them.
Or Harry lives in New York and Louis lives in Wisconsin.

Rory instantly pauses, settling his legs as he sits up slowly. “No. I’m your baby.”
“Yes, you are our baby, but we are getting another one too.” Harry explains gently.
“No, you can not. Just me…I’m baby. I’m the only baby.”
“You’re our first baby.” Louis tries next, rubbing Rory’s back supportively.
“No.” Rory argues, his signature deep frown appearing on his forehead.
“Yes—”
“No.” He repeats seriously, looking them dead in the eye. “No.”
or while preparing for the arrival of their second child, nearly four-year-old Rory expresses his sincere disproval of getting a new addition to their family.

“It’s really not that complicated,” Harry explained. “We get married and in a year or so we can file for divorce. No big deal. It’s not like you can’t wait a little while to find someone else anyway.”
Louis was going to pay a bus driver to accidentally run into Harry. A concussion would be fine. Obviously a couple broken limbs. That’s something that’s not complicated.

He couldn’t have heard him right. “What?”
Louis releases a deep breath, still not turning around. Harry wonders who he thinks he’s talking to right now. “He’s so pretty. Want to kiss him all day long. And buy him a big house and give him presents and marry him.”

Rory blinks up at Louis in absolute confusion as his expression starts to pale. “…What?”
“Papa and I got married before you were born, Ro.” Harry explains gently, sitting up on the couch.
“But...but…but…” Rory mutters repeatedly on a loop as if he’s starting to glitch. He shakes his curls as a deep frown pulls his little brows together at a loss for what this means. There’s confusion in his eyes along with growing frustration that is sure to lead to a full-blown toddler meltdown. “Where is…ME!”
Or three-year-old Rory just doesn’t understand why he wasn’t invited to his parents’ wedding.
