He's had enough messes for a life time, with prison, his piece of shit dad, and his drugged-up brothers. He just wants to work forty hours per week to keep his PO off his back and make sure his little sister doesn't have another breakdown. Keeping his new life as tidy as possible should be easy.
Except there's an annoying red-haired dancer at the club he works at who keeps talking to him, and nothing about Ian Gallagher is tidy.

Sometimes, on his early shifts when he starts at six a.m and the guy comes in at six thirty, like a whirlwind with a dirt streaked face or a bloody lip or a black eye, but ordering his coffee like he doesn’t look like he just got into a car crash, Ian thinks he hallucinates him. This little guy can’t actually exist out there in the world, right? He’s not actually part of society, is he? Surely, this angry asshole only exists in Ian’s diseased mind?
Or in which everything is about the same, except that Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich meet each other a little later in life - a little more mature, a little more stable - and manage to make a million mistakes anyway.

Only problem is, now that they're completely on board with trying to add to their family again, things aren't exactly going as planned. Between getting Ian's business up and running and Mickey dealing with insecurities that really should have been hashed out years ago, it's looking like carving out the life they're both hoping for isn't as easy as they'd hoped.

Summary
The day Ned asks Ian to rob his house the redhead almost says yes – why shouldn’t he, after all? Ned seems nonchalant enough about the whole thing, he’ll get some free expensive shit out of the deal, and if he plays his cards right maybe he can even convince Mickey to be his accomplice – but something stops him from going through with it.
The third-eldest Gallagher has never been much of a believer in fate or divine intervention or destiny or anything like that – can’t be, with the life he’s led – but he just might have become one, had he only known how that one seemingly insignificant decision had changed the course of his entire life.
He gets it now; why people write songs about this, why they become addicts when they lose it. He gets how it can mess with your whole life, why you’d go to jail to keep someone else safe, why you’d kill to see them happy. He understands it all; every cheesy line in every crappy movie, and all the bad decisions he’s seen his brothers and sister, his mother, make. He gets why people do all of those things. Now that he knows what it feels like, knows for sure, he finally understands.
