Crystal hates her roommates cat. It's not just that he savaged her the first time she tried to pick him up, or that he watches her as she moves around the flat, or that she knows from the bottom of her soul that if Charles had to decide whether to keep Crystal or the cat she'd be out without a moment's hesitation. He knows that things like him accumulate followers—worshippers, vessels of devotion that Hell so deeply adored in its ranks. He’s not there yet, of course he isn’t. He’d only just crawled back into this plane, all ill-fitting self and no title to call his own. He has yet to grow, build himself up, draw the eyes of those that might one day call the boy who crawled out of Hell their God.
Edwin feels larger than life under Charles’s eager gaze, legs swinging freely from the shrine built around him by Charles’s immediate recognition.
