Peter stares down at his half-empty glass. In the clear liquid, his past flashes like a reflection. A broken necklace on a battle-wrecked bridge. Hasty kisses that tasted like smoke. The wind whipping her hair as they swung through the city, her hands on his face, her screams in his ear. Midday escapes to the roof. Lazy evenings at the bakery. Excited whispers of the life they could have in Boston, the heavy anvil of “what if” resting unspoken between their words. Her forehead against his, her hands on his face, her voice the only one in focus. She had said the words. He had been ready to say it then and there.
He remembers it all.
“Yeah”, he smiles through the pain as he meets Gwen’s eyes, “I have, once.”
He’d never stopped.
“What happened?”
“I fucked up.”

In comes Bellamy Blake, a cocky—attractive, pediatrics resident and army veteran whose been vying for a job at a notoriously competitive research hospital.
In order to get what they both want, they decide to get engaged.
In exchange for Clarke’s Visa, Bellamy gets the recommendation he needs, along with a few other stipulations. Convincing an immigration official shouldn’t be too hard...they’ve known each other for years, but when it comes to convincing Bellamy’s loved ones at his sister’s birthday party, they may be in a little over their heads.
