Karl shifts, discarding his phone off to the side. He looks down at his own hands, stretching his fingers out in a splay, appearing curious by the way they move. George watches with interest, unconsciously leaning forward where he sits, and he finds that he’s worried he might be drooling.
When Karl looks back up at him, there’s even more arrogance behind his eyes. “What’s so interesting about my hands?”

The life he came from wasn’t this. Not Karl; the neon of his shirt, the unkempt laces, the pink on his nails, the shifting sound of driveway pebbles beneath every step. Not the neighbor boy with shorts that rode a little too high on his legs, the subtle tan to his skin promising that he dressed like this all the time.
This was not what George knew. He felt muddled.

It’s hard not to stare, gaze lifting to dirty blond hair and a small smile, features so tantalizingly perfect that they render George breathless. Eyes widen, the boys smile growing, and Sapnap’s brother was not meant to be hot, that was never a part of the plan.

George is a nice person. He doesn’t take people’s candy canes, doesn’t walk on people’s freshly cut grass, and doesn’t kick over random people’s Christmas decorations. He’s not one to do any of those things. And in fact, he’s never done any of them until tonight. On Christmas, of all nights.
In which George ditches Karl because he’s afraid to face his feelings and kicks over an old woman’s Christmas decoration and breaks the light within it. When he goes to apologize to the lady at her door, an unexpected twist occurs, and he finds himself running back to Karl’s house.
