Summary
Will was all out of excuses to keep avoiding Mike. He didn’t think he’d be strong enough to keep avoiding Mike either way - not with Mike calling him everyday- but this feels entirely too soon, the memories still fresh. Will feels that if he even thinks about Mike he could feel the phantom of Mike’s fingers digging into his hips, his lips pressing into Wills’ pulse, the thickness of his hair between Wills’ fingers.
The Wheeler’s front door opens on its own, and Will jumps from where he’s standing, letting out a small yelp in surprise.

“Shut up.” He lets his head fall to Mike’s shoulder, closing his eyes.
Mike’s hand travels up to his hair, playing with his ends and scratching at his scalp. Will lets out an embarrassing whimper at that. Jeez, get it together, Will. “Let’s get you to bed.”
He complies just as easily as Mike drags him down the hallway towards their shared room.

Will let out a breath he seemed to have been holding for a lifetime.
"We’re going to get caught, Mike," Will said softly, looking at the door Nancy had just closed. "One of these days, it’s going to happen."
"I know," Mike said. "But not tonight."
Mike and Jane have been together since they were twelve. They have a house, a daughter named Willow, and a stable life built on eighteen years of history. Mike holds out his hand, eyes still trained on the page as Will drops two dice into his palm. He finishes the last few sentences of the chapter as he shakes the dice, and then sets his book facedown on the cushion and opens his fist over the coffee table, plastic clattering against the wood.
He’s expecting to do some basic addition. What he isn’t expecting is to be looking at two hot-pink dice that say “LICK” and “ASS.”

Summary
“You kept my painting,” Will says. Sure enough, there’s the heart on Mike’s shield, just as red as the day Will painted it. It was Will’s heart that he painted, maybe. It was also Will’s heart that he pulled out and molded into the lie he thought Mike needed to hear, halfway between Salt Lake City and a secret government bunker in Nevada.
Will’s heart is in his throat now, and in Mike’s hands, and on Mike’s wall, framed and carefully displayed.
They stand there in silence for a minute, Will on one side of the room and Mike on the other and too many years of radio silence in between. The quiet is so heavy it’s like a weight on Will’s chest, crushing him, applying pressure—but to a wound or to a bruise, he doesn’t know.
“Will,” Mike says. “Why are you here?”

Will thinks about staying in bed. He thinks about beckoning Mike back into their room and rolling onto his stomach and having Mike push back inside him. He thinks about Mike moaning in his ear. Shoving his face into the mattress in that way that Will loves. Coming inside him. Dirtying him even more. Or, Mike doesn't realize his own feelings, until Will's are staring him dead in the face. Vecna's gone, they're nearing the end of their senior year, and all of a sudden Will has a boyfriend. Everything goes downhill pretty quickly from there.

“Okay,” Will says, and throws the door open. “Surprise!”
Mike opens his eyes. Then–
“Will,” he says, and it comes out a bit strangled. “Is that a puppy?”
This is a bit of a stupid question. Mike isn’t dumb. He knows what a puppy looks like. The thing in Will’s hands– a little wrinkled and brown and very covered in fur– is definitely a puppy.
Will brings home a dog. It goes about as well as expected.

Summary
Will Byers loves Mike Wheeler.
It shouldn’t be a big deal. Of course he loves Mike. He always has. But it’s never felt like this. It’s never hurt to think about it, but it also never felt like a revelation rather than a fact. It hurts, and there’s nothing he can do to ease the pain. He looks across the room at Mike and all he sees is beauty where minutes ago he only saw his best friend. He notices entire constellations in the freckles strewn across his nose, stars glittering in his eyes, and it all seems inevitable. He loves Mike. He loves him and it’s a foregone conclusion, a wish on a shooting star destined to burn out. He loves him and he can’t ever have him, not in that way, and there’s nothing in the world that can ever hurt him again quite like this.
OR: When the party dares Mike to tell someone he loves them for one hundred days, Will doesn't expect to be the unlucky recipient. He definitely doesn't expect it to consume his last three months in Hawkins. But like most things in his life, absolutely nothing goes to plan.
