Summary
Hannibal has to hide away from the world for a while, and does so by becomes a Priest in a Catholic church. Will is a very troubled, very beautiful young man, who comes to the church almost every day to pray. What he doesn't do, however, is confess his sins to Father Lecter, and Hannibal aches to know why.
And then he turned his head to meet Hannibal's eyes with one of his. “I just want to be a decent, normal man.”
The words shattered, fragile like a thin layer of solidified sugar, and Hannibal watched the man close his eyes and lower his bible, as he pressed his back against the back rest of the chair. A wounded bird.
Hannibal enjoyed crushing those wounded birds. This time, however, the notion alone was enough to make him ache.
“Normality is never feared,” he said, as he turned himself towards the broken angel beside him. “...nor is it celebrated.”

Summary
Today begins with the familiar sensation of Will’s wiry hands gripping Hannibal’s sides. There was a time when Hannibal would wake early in the morning, waiting for their routine so that he could prevent Will from hurling them over the bed. It only saddened Hannibal whenever he would see the look of defeat on Will’s face, like a bullet shatters glass. So, he lets Will attempt to kill him every morning, knowing he would fail and sometimes hoping he wouldn’t.
Will suffers from anterograde amnesia, unable to remember any day after the fall from the cliffside. Hannibal never gives up hope.

God, had Will been so blinded by the promise of a life he’d never expected for himself that he’d missed every single blaring red flag? The most sickening part, something Will pushed down deep beneath mountains of hate and anger, was that Hannibal had affection for him. The doctor had a regard for Will he’d never shown for others, and it left Will feeling certain that this entire imprisonment was a test to an unknown end.
