Summary
Loving Lance was like watching a fire grow. He’d noticed it when it was nothing but a spark; small, manageable, and nothing to worry about. But he’d ignored it, hoping it would go away on it’s own.

Summary
Keith looks down at the stereotypical red solo cup in his hand, filled with some liquor he found in the fridge. Someone named Rolo had put in his hand almost an hour ago. At first, he hadn’t had any of the mystery liquid out of fear of the unknown, but the second he saw Lance he chugged half of it’s contents. It’s fruity, but sour.
Keith looks up from the cup as he brings it to his lips again. His eyes, almost as if they’re trained to do so, find Lance. Lance is speaking to the short girl — Katie, he thinks is her name, but he isn’t positive — and the larger man he knows to be Hunk. He and Hunk have physics together. They’ve never spoken. Lance laughs at something Hunk says, and Keith finds himself smiling into his cup. He hates it and downs the rest of the cup’s contents, and then grimaces at the taste.
Keith decides he needs a refill.

Summary
Lance held his breath. He knew, at this rate, they’d have two options: fight with what they had (which was Keith’s knife and team spirit) and hope they can skirt by with the help of the locals, or submit and become prisoners to the Galra. Neither situation was ideal. Lance looked to Keith, at his eyes and his eye lashes, the curve of his nose and the pink in his lips. He knew it was bad timing, but he really wanted to kiss Keith before whatever happened, happened.
But when Keith turned his body to face him and said, “Kiss me.” With the same amount of emotion one would say, “Hand me that stapler,” it threw Lance completely off guard.

Summary
I feel like the worst kind of idiot, for not noticing sooner. For letting myself get tricked into believing that it was all actually real.
I would stop time; if I try I think I could. I would keep you here, asleep in front of me, still in love with me.--
UPDATED with Like Mercy (Chapter 2), a companion piece from Merlin's POV.

Summary
'Merlin blinked. “Came out as what? A socialist?”
And now the look transformed into an expression Arthur had patented, to say there were bounds and bonds to men’s stupidity which Merlin had blissfully transcended. “No, you idiot, as gay.”
There was a silence, which the wind entered, and rifted. “Gay?” Merlin asked, numbly. “Like gay gay?”
Arthur wrinkled up his face. “Yes, Merlin, gay gay. Homosexually gay. What the hell else did you think I meant?”'
In which Arthur comes out, and Merlin is Shook.

Summary
Arthur does not need love. A prince is above such things. He does not need to be held, he needs only the embrace of armor on his skin as he trains to protect Camelot. He does not need friends, only allies to ensure his kingdoms future. These are the marks of a good leader.
That is what he tells himself, anyway.

this gave arthur a better character arc than bbc did. again i haven’t seen the show in like, a decade, but i knew at 17 that it was lacking and this just really, REALLY isn’t.

Summary
Arthur could see his father glaring down - face red and eyes narrowed as he looked at Merlin with clear distaste.
"Once this over, sorcerer...I’ll burn you."
"You’ve already tried that," Merlin’s voice answered and Arthur had to bite his fist to keep from making any noise. “You need to accept you can’t kill me… Hand me that blanket, please.”
“I’m sure there must be some method… Beheading?”
“No, we tried that.”
“Hanging?”
“I just sort of... Swung there, remember?”
There was another pause.
“I should have made you keep that dragon below the castle so I could feed you to it.”
“Kilgharrah? He won’t eat me, but if you want to torture me than making me listen to his nonsense for an hour might do it.” Merlin said and there was a soft sigh from the other end of the room. “I’m glad you agreed to help me though. Usually I have to do the grunt work of saving Arthur myself.”
“I can’t wait to kill you.”
Or
Uther finds out about Merlin’s magic, but can’t seem to kill him. Merlin is just trying to protect Arthur. They become a begrudgingly effective duo. Arthur doesn't understand why they think he isn't noticing this.
