Jake timidly strums Heeseung's purple guitar pick against the strings, locking his gaze on his ex-boyfriend's sparkling eyes like he's searching for a song or a familiar melody that could be hiding in them. And oh, he finds it alright, in the warmth of Heeseung's eyes, it comes in like tidal waves at Gyeongpo Beach. He can almost feel the breeze when he closes his eyes, he strums again and he can hear the seagulls. If he digs deeper inside his memory he'll hear the waves crashing, the taste of salty water against his lips, and the texture of the sand against his bare feet.

Alternatively, Heeseung has been in love with Jake for over a year now. All it takes is Riki calling them mom and dad for them both to snap.

“A new mommy,” Riki finally mumbles, and the answer makes Heeseung’s heart drop out of his ass and shatter on the pine needle-laden ground. From the shocked and slightly panicked look on the poor tree farmer’s face, his heart is doing the same thing. (Jake, Heeseung realizes he has nametag with big bubble letters and little star stickers around it. Jake looks like he wishes he’d never asked Riki anything.)
