Summary
Sometimes Steve remembers that living in a town with a pretty obvious cult just outside it isn’t actually normal. But everyone in Hawkins has sort of gotten used to it.
Steve doesn’t think about it all that much. It’s a part of life in Hawkins, and high school’s a bitch, and Steve’s busy juggling his relationship with Nancy Wheeler (and the nagging suspicion it’s all falling apart), and the tightness in his chest when spending time with her these days almost always means spending time with her fellow Hawkins Post intern Jonathan, and keeping his grades up enough to graduate this year and keep his father placated, and the weird tension with Tommy and Carol lately, and also how he’s somehow babysitting almost a half dozen kids nowadays, whose newest obsession is ghost hunting and have been bullying Steve into taking them to every abandoned house in Hawkins.

Eddie Munson was practically raised by the concept of harsh realities, and he’s learned not to want things that he’ll never have, which isn’t as much as a bummer as it could be, because making the most out of what you’ve got is just as good.
Steve Harrington, despite his reputation as a casual flirt and a serial dater, has a bad habit of falling hard and fast and never really recovering. Steve Harrington, despite his reputation as a bit oblivious, and a ladies man, figured some stuff out about himself four years ago and promptly squashed all those feelings into a box he never intended to see the light of day.
In which Will coming out forces Steve to be open about some things (because Steve’s issues will always take a backseat to making sure the kids feel safe). And Steve doesn’t mean for Eddie to find out, but he does, and it turns into a bonding experience. (And it’s the best and the worst, because having him as a friend is more than Steve ever could’ve hoped for, but it also feels a little like dying.)

More specifically: Steve is on Eddie Munson’s couch, in his boxer shorts and a shirt that's clearly been slept in, eating dry cereal out of the box and blinking slowly at the TV, which is currently playing WWF. His hair is more of a mess than Dustin has ever seen it outside of literal fights to the death. Eddie himself is nowhere to be seen.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Dustin demands, dropping his backpack just inside the door.

“You are such a fucking asshole.” Steve says, but again there’s no venom behind his words. It comes out like an observational statement, like they’re back in Freshman year biology marking down the anatomy of the frog they dissected. Looks like spaghetti, Steve had said while they stared down at the guts in front of them, and even now Tommy can’t eat spaghetti without thinking of it. “You know, believe it or not, Eddie doesn’t treat people the way you do. He wouldn’t even think to.”
Tommy scoffs, does an eye roll of his own. “Yeah, I’m sure he’s real sweet to people before he gouges their eyes out."

Four more people come stumbling through the doors - a short-haired girl in camouflage with a kid wearing what looks like the top half of a ghillie suit on her back, the kid hollering at the top of his lungs for a doctor like he’s on the brink of death. The reporter grabs the short-haired girl, stopping her from running directly into a frozen onlooker because she’s busy looking over her shoulder at a boy in a leather jacket right behind her, his face pulled tight with pain as he carries a limp, unmoving body, their head tipped back, pale face smeared with blood in the unforgiving halogen lights -
“Help him!” the kid is screaming, “Somebody, please -”
Oh, Wayne thinks, oh, oh, oh.or; wayne munson finds himself at hawkins memorial on march 27th.

It’s in the middle of scanning the last bottle of green tea that Itadori properly looks up. Eye contact with him is a physical, unexpected shock, a crunch of imaginary static snapping through Megumi and leaving his hands twitching at his sides.
"Hey." Itadori blinks, wide and earnest. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
The tea sloshes backwards in the bottle he’s holding. Megumi focuses on this until his vision steadies.
"No," he says. "I don’t think so."
In the aftermath, Itadori loses his memories instead of his life. Megumi grieves nonetheless.
