Summary
“I know I wasn’t a good parent, emotionally. But I wasn’t as bad as him, though, Buck, please - I didn’t drink or hurt either of you -”
Philip’s expression is shocked, like he never considered what responsibility he had for what Maddie went through. It makes Buck feel a familiar roiling anger in his gut.
“No, you just drove her to someone who did!” He stares at his father, furiously. Then, he’s just tired, suddenly. “And I hurt myself for you.”
***
In the wake of the events of Nashville and Buck's detoxing, Philip Buckley sets out to do something that's been harder every year he hasn't done it: actually try to understand his son, and explain how he became the person he was, and maybe gain some calvary in the shadow of his's son's better, now-departed father figure.

Summary
Past the worst of the detoxing, Buck sees Eddie cooking breakfast for him one morning and realises he's in love, and tells him as such. Eddie is determined to have things not change between them. So why is it so weird, suddenly?
*******
“But you’re not in love with me, right?” Buck says. Not because he’s not sure. But because he needs Eddie to say it.
“Buck, I’m…you know I’m straight,” he replies, which is sort of a roundabout answer. But Buck wishes he’d said a more definitive no.
He looks at Eddie’s uncomfortable expression and regrets opening his mouth at all. “I know. I’m sorry I made it weird. I just - I couldn’t bear you not knowing. Because sometimes I think you think you’re not worthy of it, and you needed to know you are.”

Summary
“Go easy,” Eddie says, half without realising it, but Chris is gentle in hugging Buck and it’s Buck who is clearly trying to hold back.
“I thought you weren’t coming back,” Eddie hears, muffled, and wants to burst into tears.
“I told you I’d always come back for you, Chris.” Buck’s voice is scratchy and emotional.
Eddie has to look away, blinking at the ground. He can’t believe they’re finally home. They’re home and they’re together, the family.

Summary
“Didn’t think I needed calvary from you for that one, princess. I was just trying to help you before, my sincerest apologies.”
Taylor is not someone who gets needled easily. She does the needling. It’s part of her skillset. But for some reason this – Lucy, that was it Lucy fucking Donato – is getting under her skin. “Well, thank you for the sisterhood,” she says, sarcastically. “But you’re hardly innocent, you kissed someone in a relationship.”
*
Taylor meets Lucy again in a bar, and hooks up with her mostly out of curiosity and spite, and insists it will never happen again. But it does. And does again...

Summary
Sometimes you have to break things to fix them. Chris would break his relationship with Buck, but Buck's already done that.
Chris can finish the job, though.

Summary
They did not have to be friends. They did not even have to like one another. They only had to be partners, in the barest sense of the word, and survive a few weeks together in close quarters. That, Jack thought, was neither too much to ask for nor too much to give, though which of the two of them was doing the giving or the taking, he could not yet say.
Fort Pierre, South Dakota, 1905. In the aftermath of a life-saving amputation, Doctor Jack Abbot is given an ultimatum: take on an assistant or give up his clinic altogether. Jack is not eager to heed to in any way that counts. Then comes a stranger from Pennsylvania, passing through town on his long journey north to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.

Summary
“Hey,” Buck says, in the hospital room after it’s all over. “Just so you know, I’m in love with you.”
His voice is raspy, his smile a little self-deprecating. His eyes, when Eddie stares at him in surprise, are steady and blue. He doesn't sound like he’s blurting something out, or getting something off his chest, or confessing something he’s embarrassed of. He just sounds like he’s telling Eddie about the weather, something mundane. The sun is hot in the sky, they’re in New Mexico, and Buck is, apparently, in love with him.
Buck confesses to Eddie after the kidnapping. Eddie, in a fit of madness, accepts his confession. It'll be fine - just because Eddie isn't in love with Buck, doesn't mean he can't be his boyfriend.

Summary
“How are we gonna practice dating if we can't even take the first step?”
Three hours later, when he was lying in bed staring up at the ceiling, Eddie would not be able to pinpoint with any certainty what possessed him to say what he said next. All he knew was that at the time, it seemed like the perfect answer, the obvious solution.
“We practice on each other.”

Summary
Eddie frowns at her through the rearview mirror. “What do you need to be distracted from?” The traffic in front of them is inching forward and Eddie’s car rolls ahead slowly.
Gwen lets out a long, slightly shaky breath. “The fact that I just spent a week with my homophobic family and now I’m going to go home and tell my best friend I’m in love with her.”
Eddie stops a little too suddenly, enough that Gwen’s seatbelt tightens and stops her from flopping forward. “Ah.”
(or, Gwen just needed a ride to the airport. She didn’t mean to trigger a sexuality crisis in her Uber driver. Oops. )
