Ilya brushed his fingers across Shane’s jaw, dipping in under his ear and sliding into the hair at the nape of his neck. “Came as soon as I could get away, Hollander.” He smirked, knowing he looked cocky and unbothered.
The use of his last name turned Shane’s eyes dark and the way his lips parted made Ilya’s blood rush through him, thrumming.
“I only have a couple of hours,” Ilya said, thanking every star in the universe that this wasn’t true. “What do you want today, hm? Do you want to get on your knees for me?”
When Ilya and Shane revisit some old dynamics, unexpected feelings emerge.

Shane’s nose wrinkles again, creasing his constellations of freckles, and his fingers reach up to touch the black frames.
“You have. A few times,” Shane mumbles. His cheeks are flushed brilliantly pink, as soft and vibrant as fresh spring roses, and he moves to take the glasses off, but Ilya stills his hand and shakes his head.
“I think you should leave them on,” Ilya purrs as he leans in and presses a kiss to Shane’s lips, which are parted out of mild confusion. When Ilya pulls back, Shane’s head tilts slightly.
“But I don’t need them unless I’m reading,” Shane says, his confusion evident in the soft v of his brow and the downturning of his lips.
“Shane,” he laughs, with Shane, never at him, and understanding dawns across Shane’s face.
“Oh. You’re… into this.”

“Wait–” Rumi has the tip of her glowing weapon to the intruder’s neck the moment their mouth opens. She narrowed her eyes, unable to identify them as the fairy lights are near her bed, and the light isn’t great around her desk, as the actual lights in her room were off. Only the fairy lights are on, and outlined the intruder's silhouette.
“Rumi?” It’s a whisper. Words that meant the most were always whispered. Rumi wavered at the voice, eyes scanning their face. She stares into their eyes. They’re dark brown, but have amber flecks in them.
“Familiar.” She thinks, and even the nose looks like something she’s seen before. Someone she’s seen before. Their face structure is sharp. Again, it's familiar. She recognizes him the moment his mouth opens.
“I’m a little hurt it took you more than ten seconds to realize who I was,” Jinu’s voice is playful “But I’ll let it slide.”

However, as their meetings continued, he unexpectedly began to fall fast. At the same time, Rumi was trying to get information from Jinu about Gwi-ma and uncover more about her own demon origins—especially since spending time with him seemed to ease her vanishing voice. Despite their hidden motives, both of them slowly found themselves genuinely falling for each other.
Unfortunately for Rumi, Mira starts becoming suspicious over their leader's vanishing acts, so she finally confronts her one and one.
