Summary
Euijoo’s hushed prayers echo in his ears as he stares ahead at the screens where they display Effie digging into the bowl of names. Nicholas can't think about anything except for a plea to anyone, anything for it to not be Harua. His eyes plant themselves on the rows far ahead of him and Euijoo, practically glaring into the back of Harua's head. His eyes stay stuck onto Harua's chocolate brown strands even when he hears the crinkling of paper over the microphone.
His heart slows as he listens to her clear her throat into the microphone, hoping that one of Euijoo's many prayers work. He exhales a shaky breath as she opens her mouth to speak.
“Wang Yixiang!”

"Awful day. I don't want to get into it."
"So awful that you can't get into it but you can smoke a cigarette?" Euijoo nearly laughs out loud at Nicholas' choice of actions. Instead, he scoffs softly, so soft that he's sure the wind has blown it away along with the cigarette smoke the second it escaped his mouth.
"Yeah," Nicholas looks up at him from the cold floor of the balcony. Without another word, Nicholas lifts the cigarette out from his mouth and extends his arm out to Euijoo. A quiet offer of easy relaxation.
As a young boy, Euijoo's mother had drilled into him that the second a cigarette touched his pure lips and inhaled the cancer causing air into his body, he would immediately die. Euijoo knows this not to be true at the age of twenty three but still, he hesitates at Nicholas' offer.
The first (sober) cigarette of Nicholas' life and Euijoos' last.

nicholas isn't a typical omega.
his heat cycle is so, so strange that euijoo can never manage to keep track of it even if he tried (which he does actually, with a calendar and all.) now typically most omegas heats come every two months, like his and harua's does. and maybe if you have a health condition, it'll come every six months which is odd but not concerning. now here comes nicholas, whose heat comes once a year as if it were a holiday.
however, nicholas is only human after all and he was bound to forget about his heats at some point.

the first time taerae meets ricky, taerae is off put by him. taerae is no stranger to weird people in the diner but ricky isn't like that. it's just something about him that taerae can't quite put his finger on.
taerae takes no time to greet him and ricky takes even less time to order. he doesn't even glance at the menu, he gazes into taerae's eyes with his own deep eyes and simply says, "just a coke will be fine."

ricky is one of taerae's regular customers at the diner he works at and ricky oddly only orders a coke. taerae is intrigued by this, to say the least.

leo can always tell when sangwon has something stuck in his brain, his mind always strays away from the conversation at hand, his anxieties pulling him away from what is right in front of him. it happens so often that leo can't even be all that shocked when the moment sangwon lets go of the bundle of nerves in front of him, revealing it all.
sangwon's eyes are unable to meet leo's as he messes with the edge of his fingernail, his eyes straight ahead at the cold, dead grass: "i don't think i can do this anymore."

"well, actually," anxin pauses in his seat, ceasing his typing. sangwon's neck nearly cracks from how fast his head turns to look at anxin. "i think i know someone who would."
sangwon's forehead creases in between his brows as he speaks hesitantly, "like a doctor?"
"sort of." anxin says.

it's a blessing for harua who doesn't exactly fit the mold of an alpha to even have somebody— he's a chubby faced alpha who isn't very tall. not many people would think of a bunny faced guy like him to be a strong, dominant alpha that commanded power anywhere they went.
but it's also not like nicholas is the most stereotypical omega, either. nicholas is a tall and muscular omega with the prettiest eyes harua's ever seen. both he and nicholas knows that people expect omegas to be small and fragile and for alphas to be large and strong so it's no shock for them that people expect them to be the exact opposite designation.

when sangwon was very young, a man tried to kill him. there's nothing more for him to say about it. people had told him that an event like that would age you, maybe it'd make you wiser beyond his years, maybe it'd make you paranoid beyond belief. or maybe it'd do none of those and it would just be a story that he'd laugh about when retelling the story to his children when he's older.
nobody had told him how lost it would make him feel. to have your life be so close to being taken by a complete stranger– it's a strange thing to acknowledge, especially at a young age. the idea that someone had life wrapped around their fingers so easily is, well to be honest, an unsettling thing.
it's no shock he's ended up here. it feels like it was destined from the start.

the engine of the car hums beneath the low volume of the radio, another country song playing between the fuzzy static that interrupts the song every few seconds. the road is bumpy– too far out from the city for the roads to be carefully paved and pristine. they’re about six hundred and something miles out from the city. deserted roads and signs that feel like they mock the two for how far they run. it’ll never be far enough to feel safe.

hanbin feels like he should be terrified and borderline shaking over the idea of hao sticking a needle in his face but he isn’t. he doesn’t feel anything remotely close to that feeling. he feels a warmth in his chest that goes all the way down to his stomach, it felt like it was burning him from the inside out.
hanbin pauses in place. oh god, only this would happen to him. he needs this piercing to happen as quickly as possible so he can run out, grab matthew, and never talk about this ever again. he’ll also apologize to hao at some point about his whole situation but that’s something for later not when he’s losing his goddamn mind over popping a boner in a piercing shop of all places.
