Summary
Ian is only a day away from home, and carelessly leaves their door unlocked.

Ian hears shuffling near him, and startles, knocking over his drink. They quickly tear the half-written page out and close their journal swiftly. The doorknob rattles before it opens, and Ian feels around for anything they can use as a weapon, breathing heavily, wide eyes set on the door in front of them.
It is only a woman. Ian is safe.

If he cried, it was only tears that pricked his eyes and dare not fall. Even then, the origin of them was not from pain—but from pure fear. Avid was going to die, and he was going to die for real this time.
No bouncing back.
No staking who was trying to kill him.
He was going to die.
And Owen smiles for the first time in centuries knowing this fact.

Apo decides to help Owen sleep by bringing him into her dreamscape.

Owen hadn't gotten a good night's rest, recently. Apo could easily tell. The slight jolts up when someone would speak, his growing eyebags, his slower walk… Maybe it was the blessing of Morpheus that allowed her to connect all these dots.
Or maybe Apo had been paying significantly more attention to the little things Owen would do. The way a smirk cracked on her face before saying a joke. The angle in which she dragged her staff to feel the ground. The exact tone she laughed in, and what each one meant.

Summary
Scott, Avid, and Owen make it out of Oakhurst as worse people, and decide to live together, ruling a town similar to the one they left fifty years ago.

When Avid lives, Scott feels no remorse. If anything, he feels bored, but leaves the castle to Cleo and Pearl because it's the easiest thing to do and he wants to explore the new world anyways.

Owen doesn't go to Abolish for a cure. He simply stays fighting with the rest and follows Avid and Scott out of Oakhurst.

When Pyro's attempt on Avid's life fails, someone saves him. He repays him in every way possible, but to this day, he still fails to earn his favor.

Summary
It has nearly been fifty years since Legundo, doctor and unwilling vampire, died in Oakhurst. A man with his face and voice and the same bloodied past finds himself once more drowning out the ache of violent memories at the first bar he finds. He isn't expecting to see a familiar face, not that he can say why the crimson garbed stranger is familiar in the first place. Legs doubts he could forget a face as pale and perfect as a marble tomb effigy and eyes like a fresh wound.
Scott, for his part, cannot resist toying with the spitting image of the doctor who hated him like no other. His promise never prevented him from being a nuisance, after all.

Scott was supposed to get first dibs, that's what they agreed upon after he'd been revealed to be the elder vampire.
Owen was only supposed to take a small bite, a little snack. And he truly had intended to, he really had! But he got a little overzealous, going in for another bite at the same time Pyro pushed Scott off. No one realized what was happening till it was done.

Pyro was petrified. Pyro had died. And now they were alive again. Pyro was undead.

Summary
Ugh. Humans are so rude.
Scott already despises most of the people in Oakhurst and he’s only been here for two days. Two! It wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t accused of being a vampire and murdering Shelby in the woods. The townsfolk had been quite nice up until that point, but noooo, even if he successfully managed to convince everyone he didn’t kill Shelby—seeing as she showed up alive and well!—doubt had been cast on him.
And now no one trusts him. Great.
It’s not like Scott truly cares, Shelby’s nice enough, but does he really worry for any of these people? Absolutely not. He’s here to follow strangers into the woods and hope they bite him, not the other way around!

It’s the unfortunate, irrevocable truth: Scott Goldsmith is human.
He doesn’t want to be.
