I inched closer to him, and lightly bumped my shoulder with his. I always cherished the moments when he told me of his childhood, like a child receiving an unexpected pastry. “And are you pleased that fate has led you to finally experience it?”
He turned his head to look at me, and his smile was so sweet I felt like I was one of the berries he would place over the fire to make a preserve out of, slowly simmering and melting under his care. “I am. Very much so.”
During the second winter at their cabin, despite their surfacing memories, Fitz and Beloved go foraging for berries, and get caught up in a storm.

"And speaking of gifts, I found what you requested from me,” he reached lower behind his stall, and my heart leapt over a beat. All my worries vanished the way an autumn breeze sweeps fallen leaves from the road as Merrick placed a round, wooden container between us. I picked it up. It seemed plain at first glance, but upon a closer look I found it painted green, with a pattern of lines carved into it. I opened the box, and inside it was a handful of seeds, bulbous and golden-brown, and suddenly it dawned on me, possibly, why Beloved loved this fruit so much. It had the same coloring as he did. “Apricot seeds, as you asked.”
Months after Aslevjal, Fitz and Beloved have settled down to recover in their cabin near Tradeford. Knowing his fondness for the fruit, Fitz discovers a way for Beloved to have apricots whenever he wanted.

Gingerly, Ed grabs the corner of the blanket on the ground, which has been acting as Ed’s mattress/pillow/sheet for the past few days, and gives it a sharp flick.
The spider is not dead.

Ed raises his gaze to Stede’s, somehow not surprised to find Stede ready and willing to catch his eyes and hold them as surely as he does Ed’s hand and his heart and his fucking sanity. “Of me?” Ed asks.
“Of a lot of things,” Stede says, tracing his fingertips up Ed’s fingers to his fingernails. “Of my feelings, of my failures, of everything I was leaving behind and everything I could gain. But no, dearest, I was never scared of you.”
