“Of a lot of things,” Stede says, tracing his fingertips up Ed’s fingers to his fingernails. “Of my feelings, of my failures, of everything I was leaving behind and everything I could gain. But no, dearest, I was never scared of you.”

Stede wasn’t sure what was more pathetic: that the Squid Facts are the highlight of his day, or that he is seriously thinking of correcting the fact they had just sent. He has no idea who Squid Facts actually is or if this is a thread he can even reply to and have someone see it, but eventually he figures, fuck it, even if no one sees it, he gets that cathartic boost of sending a correction. At least if they see it they won’t be able to call him a pedantic bitch to his face.

A very silly little fic based on that one photo going around of someone advertising a phone number to text for squid facts on their car: what if Stede texted that number? And what if the person texting out squid facts was Ed?

Stede loves his life. He loves being on the Revenge and the freedom of living at sea. He loves the crew and the acceptance he’s found among them. He loves the camaraderie he feels with each and every sailor on the Revenge and the hard-won friendships he’s forged.
He loves his co-captain. Stede loves Edward, whether he feels like Blackbeard or the Kraken or just plain Ed. He loves discovering more about Edward, more about himself. He loves sharing a space with the man that makes him feel like he's finally living the life he was meant to—truly, he did.
But if there was one downfall of living in a contained environment, it was the lack of privacy to have a meltdown in peace.

Inside is a tub that looks like it was cobbled together from wooden boards. And inside the tub is a merman.
He sits on the bottom of the tub, his back slumped against its wooden side. His tail is curled beneath the water’s surface, nearly tucked into a perfect circle in the cramped space. He looks pale and haggard, and there’s a shackle around his neck attached to a heavy chain in the wall.
He’s the most magnificent and most pathetic thing Ed’s ever seen.

“Oh, my love,” Stede said on a sigh, clutched Ed by the shoulders, and hauled him close to kiss him. At the press of lips to lips, that fluttering thing in Ed’s chest calmed, soothed by familiarity. He wanted Stede to at least enjoy the experience, even if he decided sex wasn’t for him, and the fact Stede was placing his enjoyment—or lack thereof—in Ed’s hands was weighty enough Ed could use it as an anchor in a storm.

Summary

An accident requires that Ed awaken from cryostasis over six months early, and finds his only companion to be Stede, the ship's onboard AI. They develop an unconventional friendship, but is it possible to have more?
This is classic mutual pining with a sci-fi twist, inspired by all of my favorite stories about the nature of personhood.

“You–” Ed was struggling to parse what Stede was saying. “You’re playing your version of this song for me, right now? Like, in real time?”“Yes, Edward, that’s correct,” said Stede softly.
Ed’s brain momentarily seized up. He supposed it made sense that Stede was capable of learning a set of rules to do something like arrange and play a piece of music. There was something unnerving about this song, though. It felt, well–it felt organic . Reactive. Almost collaborative in a way. Ed was lost in the push and pull of it, until the last notes softly petered out.
“So, what did you think?” asked Stede. It sounded nervous again. Why the hell would someone program an anxiety response into a bot?

Lucius drawls, "I'm touched."
