After a terrible accident, seventeen-year-old Edward Teach has realized that nothing in the so-called "real world" matters. The only thing that does matter is The Maelstrom—the space between dreaming and reality that he visits when he's asleep, and the only place he seems to have any control over anything. He's completely okay with checking out, doing nothing of importance besides meandering through his dream world. Until, of course, he meets Stede—another boy who's found the Maelstrom, but for some reason, can't leave. As Ed grows closer to him, it becomes apparent Stede's time—in any world—might be limited, and Ed will stop at nothing to save him. Even if it means facing the things he fears most.

Summary
Stede Bonnet has always dreamed of space. As a child, it was his parents that held him back. As an adult, it’s the looming presence of protective Dome that stops him from mapping the stars. Stede thinks he might have figured out a way around the Domes, but he’ll need the help of a genius to do it. When he approaches the famous inventor Blackbeard, that decision changes everything and takes Stede places he thought he’d only gaze at longingly from afar.

In a future world where cities separate people into sky-high towers and environmental collapse has made travel impossible, inventor Stede Bonnet has been developing telepathic communication technology to bring people closer together. When he hears about an exclusive club that's using similar technology in a very different way, it just makes business sense to check it out. The fact that it's a sex club designed to read people's deepest unspoken desires and match them with aligned others, when Stede's never once felt aligned with his own wife, is incidental... until it's not.
Ed Teach built the Impossible Birds club to allow people to keep their distance while they fight their loneliness through other kinds of connection. The last thing he expected was to find a guest who matched and aligned with him, after years of hovering above it all. And the more times his anonymous guest comes back, and the more things he unlocks about himself, the more Ed can feel himself falling in a way he never planned.
But is reading each other's minds enough? This is a story about two absolutely perfect people learning to communicate in every conceivable way, in a world that's falling apart outside their dream.

“It’s got such a presence to it, even from a distance,” Bilbo says softly, and there’s a general murmur of awed agreement from the others. “Why, in all my fifty years, I never thought I’d see such a thing, and we haven’t even arrived yet!”
Thorin’s sword hits the ground with a clatter, and Balin chokes on his pipe.
The hobbit doesn’t look at Thorin, too busy thumping Balin on the back. Once the dwarf seems able to breathe again, he looks up, to find thirteen wide pairs of eyes fixed on him.
“What?” he says defensively, though he’s not sure what he’s defending.
“You’re how old?” Kíli squeaks.
Bilbo frowns at the young dwarf. “I’m fifty years old. Well, fifty-one, come springtime. Though it is not very polite to ask someone their age so bluntly,” he tells him primly.
Fíli makes a choked sound, and Nori lets out a vicious string of swears in Khuzdul.

"At those times, Yondu hadn’t stayed at the bridge to watch the stars. He had rather stayed in his quarter, trying to find the sleep that wouldn’t come and fighting thoughts he couldn’t suppress. And it had always been Kraglin, to look at him with pillow prints on his face and barely awake. And if his first mate had ever seen the sorrows hidden behind those red eyes, he had never said anything."
Yondu remembers some of his favourite moments, before he supposedly dies. And Kraglin just wants his captain.
