Ash tries for a smile. He's going to cry again, isn't he? "If you're going to lie to me, at least make it believable."
"I mean it," Eiji whispers.
And—yeah, okay. Ash pulls his hand away. Stands up, turning to face Eiji. "You don't," he says, hearing the break in his own voice. "You don't mean it. You can't. Don't—don't pull this shit on me, Eiji. Not you. Not you."
Eiji looks hurt, and Ash wishes he never made it out of that library. Or his coach's basement.
In search of his birth certificate and a sense of normalcy, Ash deals with the aftermath of being adopted by Dino after everything settles.

Summary
Without really thinking about it, Ash starts piling up the blanket between himself and Eiji. Forming a little barrier—mentally and physically. He won't touch Eiji. He won't get any closer to Eiji. He won't ... won't taint Eiji any more than he already has.
Ash feels better already, with that sort of line between them. He pulls the blanket entirely off of himself and makes that wall between himself and Eiji. Then he does the same with the top sheet.
"Ash?"
Ash freezes. He's holding a fucking pile of clothing in his arms, and there's another pile on the bed.
"What ... What are you doing?" Eiji starts to move the pile on the bed to the side.
"N-no!" Ash blurts.
"... Why were you building a wall between us?" Eiji asks quietly. He sounds sad, and Ash wants to die.
Wanting to die, and living anyway. Walls, and breaking them down.

"... Eiji," Ash murmurs. The word tastes like a prayer on his tongue, like a holy fire that burns a sinner like Ash. Burns away everything else that he's used to tasting. "Eiji. Eiji."
"I am here, Ash."
Ash does start shaking again, and Eiji moves a little closer. Doesn't quite touch him, but it's clear that Ash can bridge the gap if he wants to.
He doesn't.
He thinks about how Eiji approached him so slowly when he hugged Ash; the way he made all of his movements clear, like he was being careful with Ash. How Ash knows that if he had flinched or pulled away—if he had even just tensed up a little, Eiji wouldn't have touched him at all.
Is that trust? Is that terrifying?
"Foxx was cruel," Ash whispers.
Salvation without redemption.

What are you so afraid of? Max wants to ask. But he knows the answer, in a way. There's danger around every corner to Ash. There's men lurking in every shadow. Max knows; Max knows. And Max has the potential to be one of those men.
"Jessica," Ash blurts. "How did you, uh—how did you get her to ... marry you?"
Hope is something you have to shelter.

Summary
This story takes place at their second year in Izumo when Ash will turn 20. They're a couple for around two years and happy.
But for Eiji his promise of forever means until death separates them. For Ash, however, it means until Eiji will leave him. He only knows abandonment and is convinced Eiji will leave him, too, after some time. All the people he loved did the same, after all.
Ash tells Eiji not to celebrate his birthday since his existence caused endless deaths and celebrating it feels wrong to him.
Eiji is sad about that request but still promises him that they won't celebrate it and Ash assumes the issue is solved.
Knowing Eiji's stubbornness, however, he should have known better...

Heartbeat rapping against his ribcage, Jimin did as he was told.
It was even larger than he had imagined - titanic and likely measuring over three meters to the top of its head as it sat on the ground.
Of course it was. It was a dragon.
“Isn’t she beautiful?”
Jimin couldn’t respond. He could only stare with a slack jaw at the creature and Taehyung who stood in front of it, grinning from ear to ear with his arms spread out wide.

"I'm just—so exhausted from only feeling those things and," he grabs back Seokjin's hand, pressing hard enough to feel some relief. "Everyday I wake and think how hope sounds like a myth at this point even when I try to believe in it because it's what keeps me sane. Just— don't ask me to be more sad and angry over this because I already am. All the time."
