When Ishmael had a moment to herself and she wandered about the backstreets, she occasionally found herself back at the Courtyard. The door had been left ajar, likely used by some squatters or rats, but alone all she can hear is the wind. The emptiness welled up within her and she glided a finger along the scar she was left. The plum blossoms have long since wilted, but she still remembered the sight of them, the feel of them, as they graced her lips.

They met two months ago.
One late, busy night at Ishmael's former workplace, her crew was on standby for what sounded initially like a standard operation. "That would be my usual order of business," she remembers—"until my partner told me there had been an ‘update.'"
She received a photo of a beautiful woman of considerable grace and height. In the photograph, she held her head low, her face hidden with the brim of her hat and ivory hair, to give the impression of an old-school criminal. She'd evaded the attention of folks, but this time, there were witnesses.
Admittedly, she was attracted by the fact that it was a woman. Admittedly, her feelings remained well concealed in a matter of professionalism, especially at the sight of how gorgeous she is. In hindsight, her naivety shows. That was the initial step.
Ishmael cracks open a beer. It's her first beer in weeks after a vow of sobering up for her work. As always, she finishes it off in a quick series of large swigs. One of those nights, she thought.
That woman is horrible. She made Ishmael deteriorate into dependency on the substance she told others to cut out of their lives.
