“So, uh,” Steve trailed off, kicking at the dirt, “My parents are gonna be gone on Friday. I was gonna maybe invite Nance and Robin for a little gathering. I guess it won’t really be a party but I figured you could come and maybe bring some pot? My dealer flaked on me.”
Jonathan considered it. He hummed quietly, trying to come to a decision. He hated Steve’s guts. When he was around Steve it made his stomach flutter nauseatingly. But, he did enjoy the company of Nancy and Robin. Plus, getting away from crowded sleeping situations would be nice, even if it was just for a night and at Steve Harrington’s house.
He shrugged, then nodded. “Yeah, alright. I can do that.”

Jonathan looks at him— why does he keep looking at him like that..? There's something in his eyes that Steven can't fucking decipher, something sweet and sticky that feels thicker than molasses. It's heavy. It's real.
"I do. I think you should do it more— with me, I mean," Jonathan leans forward and snubs the joint out in the ash tray on the coffee table. Then, he leans back against the couch, gives Steve another one of those damn, unexplainable looks. "Can you be honest with me, Steve Harrington?"

And he always changed clothes after he came back in from smoking, wouldn’t come near Steve until he did. Said he didn’t want the smell to trigger anything. He was always so worried about that. The same way he worried about keeping his special photo chemicals in the closet where the light couldn’t degrade them. Or making sure he checked the voice machine each day in case he’d missed a call from Will.
It made Steve feel, valuable. To be worried about. To be treated the same way that Jonathan treated all these things in his life that he cared about.

Steve’s trauma, physical and otherwise has a way of catching up to him leaving him unable to handle it alone. Jonathan doesn’t seem to mind though.
