“The Chancellor,” he said.

The station was literally just a single platform, and they were the only two people who got off the train. Suguru’s parents were stood waiting for them and the moment Suguru was off the train they both smiled wide, genuine smiles.
Satoru watched as Suguru jogged over to tackle his mother in a hug. His father ruffled his hair and put an arm around his shoulders.
Suguru’s mother peered around Suguru and noticed Satoru still stood at the edge of the platform. The train had already pulled away and honestly he felt like dropping down onto the tracks to hide. Maybe he could sneak away?
This was a bad, bad idea, he realized. He shouldn’t have come. The pit in his stomach that had appeared while they were on the train instantly gaped open into a canyon under her kind eyes.
But it was too late now.

Maybe if Phainon was any other designation, he would have tried to shoot his shot. If he was an omega, their secondary genders would have been complementary; the "perfect" bonded pair that media love so much. If he was an alpha, it might take more work, especially around their rut cycles, but realistically it would still make for an interesting, even electrifying dynamic. But a beta?
Well, he can't imagine he has anything to offer that someone like Mydei would actually want.
Phainon bites off more than he can chew.
