Kaveh sighs again, and this time his features knit together and he squeezes his eyes shut. “Can you stop being clinical for two minutes and hear what I’m actually asking you?”
“I am listening.” It’s true. “And I do understand.”
“Do you, now?”
“I do.”
Kaveh pinches the bridge of his nose. The frustration there isn’t feigned or overblown—it’s real, deep in the lines of his face and the tension drawing his shoulders. “I’d want you to be here,” he says again, but quieter.
“I will be here,” Alhaitham answers. “And it’ll be with the cure.”
When an expedition gone wrong leaves Kaveh with three days to live, Alhaitham and Cyno fight to find the cure while Tighnari fights to buy them time.

A sound close to a ‘tsk,’ came from Changsheng and she lifted her head to look Baizhu in the eyes as he took a small sip of his medicine. It was bitter, but he was used to it. “You continue to lose strength, Baizhu, and yet you still do work. You must take care of yourself as well, you know.” She sounded like a scolding mother in his ears and he scrunched his nose up, downing the rest of the medicine in one go.
It lingered in his throat for a moment, as if he were about to cough it back up, but he kept it down. He let his arms fall into his lap, still holding the cup and allowing his head to loll back, his eyes falling shut, heavy. “You pity me too much, Changsheng… I will be fine.”
“Not if you keep overworking yourself. After you rest, tomorrow you will only be attending the Lantern Rite Music Festival, and you will not be doing anything else.”
Baizhu scoffed, though it was half-hearted, “You speak like you’re my mother…”

Edward WISHED he could remember what had happened to them. The last clear memory he had was of him trudging after Mustang as he strode into their shared hotel room, documents in hand and trying to tempt Edward with the idea of a spaghetti dinner at the nearby dinner with the promise of letting him have whatever dessert he wanted when his memory grew hazy, like a dream he was trying too hard to remember.
Mustang was still breathing, deep, regular breaths, which was the only solace that Edward could take that he wasn’t near death because he wouldn’t freaking wake up. He really hoped that whatever they had been given, liquid or otherwise, wasn’t fatal, because with his automail out of commission, Edward depended on the bastard to escape their makeshift prison.
And maybe because he was just a little bit worried about him. Just a little. The tiniest, smallest amount of worry.
