Summary
Sherlock Holmes was nineteen when he decided he'd had enough. Uni was dull, his family smothering, cocaine too expensive after his trust fund was cut. There was no utility in pursuing a degree in Chemistry, not when he was so good at stealing cars and could make his own money. He had no reason to stay. So he left.
John Watson was nineteen when his absent mother dumped on him her last daughter. She disappeared (again) while his father drank himself numb every night (typical). With six younger siblings to take care of, uni was an impossible dream. They had no one except for him. So he stayed.
Or: how Sherlock escaped from his family, John sacrificed everything to his, and how, together, they built their own.

John's off-handed threat spirals a bit out of control. Or maybe neither of them were all that in-control to start with. Either way, it ends up with Sherlock tied to a chair, John being delightfully creative, and Sherlock doing his darndest (and failing miserably) to stay aloof and unaffected. Which is hard when you have a lapful of very warm, VERY horny flatmate.

The word green was used to convey a great many things. Illness. Envy. Inexperience.
Standing there amidst Janine's chattering bridesmaids, watching Sherlock furrow his brow and study fabric swatches, watching him smile and simper and flirt, John thought it a remarkably apt colour choice. Because he felt quite sick to his stomach, he feared the source of said sickness might very well be jealousy, and he had absolutely no idea at all what to do about it.
Or: Sherlock needs to fake a relationship for a case. He doesn't ask John.

I feel like I’m going insane, and Sherlock Holmes is dead.Nothing makes it feel any more real, but John repeats it anyway. His therapist thinks it will help. Because that’s what John does, these days. He goes to therapy, for all the good it does him (none at all, thank you very much). He buys milk. He goes to work. He’s polite to strangers even when he feels like screaming.

John watched Sherlock jump from the roof of Bart's hospital, and he can't believe the detective is dead. John concocts a series of increasingly dangerous "experiments" in order to prove that Sherlock is alive.

John is surprisingly okay with this, with one caveat: He doesn’t want to remember any of it. A loving, healthy relationship, with the occasional torture session courtesy of dubiously legal pharmaceuticals. It’s all fine. Or, it would be fine, if an old enemy didn't have designs of his own on the both of them.
