She’s tucked on the couch the same night with Aunt Jenna when she realizes her life is boring, and she doesn’t want to wait two years to have some fun. Mystic Falls is boring, Matt is boring, high school is boring. She realizes she’s sick and tired of it all.
She’s sixteen when she shoves as much of her wardrobe as fits into a backpack, puts on her favorite sneakers, and walks out of her childhood home while her parents are asleep upstairs, and she’s sixteen when she figures stranger danger isn’t quite so much of an issue as long as she has her phone in hand, even if the guy driving was laying in the street five minutes ago.
"My name's Damon," he says, and the way the skin around his eyes crinkles when he smiles at her makes her heart skip a beat or three.

Summary
Apparently, Patrick is a happy drunk. He’s not sure about that. It’s hard to tell. Drunk, everything feels so different: easier, funnier, and very far away. All Patrick knows is that when he’s drunk, more people stand near him and laugh when he laughs. Everyone wants to be his friend, wants to be his older brother, wants to tug him here and there and clap his back and ruffle his hair.
Drunk, Patrick doesn’t mind so much. He lets them handle him while he giggles at his own clumsiness. Maybe that’s what they mean by happy drunk.
