It’s only when Jean wraps both of his hands around his big cappuccino cup that Kevin freezes in his tracks. The only jewellery Kevin remembers Jean ever wearing is Renee’s silver cross that she gave him before he left for LA. So it can’t be some random casual thing that there is a simple gold band on the ring finger of Jean’s hand. The only finger whose absence or presence of a ring matters quite a lot, especially if the ring looks like a wedding band.
Kevin can’t help himself. “What the fuck is that on your hand?” he blurts out.
Jean languidly glances down on his hand. “A ring? I’m sure you’ve seen them before.”- Jean and Jeremy may or may not be married. Who knows? Not Kevin!

“Stay,” Jean’s voice is raspy with disuse in the morning.

Does anyone else care this much, Adi wonders sometimes. Amongst the countless collegiate Exy coaches, is there even one other that pours their entire well-being into their team the way that James Rhemann does?
If it were merely about winning, maybe that kind of unrelenting dedication would be understandable. But winning a game isn’t what’s important to James, and that’s either the best or worst part of it all, depending on your perspective. No, he’s far more sentimental and idealistic.
It’s a good thing they can’t have biological kids, Adi supposes. Not when they already have an entire Exy team full of them.
