After a career-ending injury, Harry is sought out by McGonagall to return to Hogwarts as a professor. Not having anything to tie him down, and looking forward to a fresh start, Harry accepts. He's expecting to settle right into the place he used to feel most at home, looking forward to seeing Teddy throughout the whole year instead of just on holidays, and most certainly looking forward to seeing who wins the quidditch cup. What he's not expecting, and what no one has bothered to warn him about, is that Draco Malfoy is also back to calling Hogwarts home. While unable to shake his natural state of being suspicious of Malfoy, he slowly starts to see that maybe it's possible for someone to change over the course of a decade. Whether he's willing to accept that or not is a different story.

Potter is utterly livid. He turns on himself, but stops at the door’s skirt. There’s a beat of silence and Draco doesn’t look, clamps his eyes shut, holds his breath. Potter says it on an exhale, so that it rings true and honest and crystal clear to Draco’s ears.
“You’re not worth it, anyway.”
It’s another blow to the head, a contravention with Draco’s name on it, a new poison to be served at breakfast. Draco doesn’t think he could shrink into himself any further if he tried. Potter walks away and he must be halfway gone already when Draco hears him say, low and resentful, in a manner that reminds him of his own father.
“Your father said: forgive me.”
