AU. Lan Wangji has lived his entire adult life to date as a Gusu Lan hostage in Lanling. He would like to have agency over the course of his life at some point. To be able to make choices based on his own desires rather than on those of others with more power. To feel like choices he makes could have weight on the outcome of events.
It is quite ironic that when agency is returned to him, it is as a result of being kidnapped by a (faux) princess and threatened with his brother’s life and given to a man he doesn’t know who will very much expect him to obey.
