Vi turned towards the kitchen door and waited for Caitlyn’s slender frame to appear. As soon as she did, Vi’s breath hitched, but not because of Caitlyn’s flawless beauty. This time it was because of her condition. She was even paler than usual, her straight posture broken by a lowered head and hunched shoulders. Her dark hair was disheveled, and her visible eye was red and puffy. Caitlyn had been crying.
In an instant, Vi was holding her. Caitlyn collapsed into the hug and hid her face on Vi’s shoulder.
“Hey.” Caitlyn’s voice was thin as paper.
“Hey, Cupcake. What happened?”, Vi asked, softly stroking her back.

As Vi methodically worked her way through empty corridors, she considered her options to deal with her current situation. 'The Caitlyn conundrum!', she snickered to herself.
She was weighing up the cost of setting up a duplicate academy when the distinctive click of heels on tile made her freeze. Mid-mop stroke. The rhythmic clicking echoed through the corridor as a familiar figure approached. Vi's heart rate quickened as she caught a glimpse of navy blue hair rounding the corner.
Vi briefly considered dumping the contents of the bucket on the ground and making a break for it. Those heels, insanely long legs and slippery floors were a perfect combination. At the very least it would buy her some time. The janitor imagined herself bounding away with all the poise of a graceful gazelle. Leaving the blue haired hunter in her soapy wake. Annoyingly, she then realised she would be the person responsible for cleaning up the resulting mess.
Or
Janitor Vi skips out on her one-night stand, who is way out of her league. She doesn't expect her to be introduced as Piltover Academy's new physics professor the next morning.

Summary

After a disastrous stakeholder meeting, Caitlyn is effectively fired from her position and her mother assigns her to work on the farm to maintain the company's image. Vi is charged with overseeing Caitlyn, and tasked with turning her into a regular cowpoke. Unfortunately, tension builds as the pair's disdain for one another becomes more apparent.
Something besides their animosity is brewing on the ranch, though. And if they aren't able to put aside their differences to work together and figure out what it is, Rocking Bar Ranch could cease to exist as they know it.

Caitlyn bites her lip, brows pulling together. “You didn't have to do that, you know,” she mutters, fingers reaching to tug at the front of Vi’s shirt, eyes downcast.
“I wanted to,” Vi admits, this swelling in her chest telling her that she means it.
“Why?”
Vi takes a breath as she lifts a hand to brush back a loose strand of hair. She shrugs a shoulder. “Would you believe me if I said I don't know?”
“No, but I can pretend to, if you'd like,” Caitlyn says around a chuckle. Caitlyn’s knees suddenly tighten around Vi’s hips so she staggers forward, her hands automatically pulling Caitlyn closer, her hands hooking underneath her knees to pull her closer to the edge, earning her a gasp. Her hands trail up her legs, and Vi’s stomach swoops as Caitlyn’s eyes flicker to her lips, Caitlyn’s hands settling on her hips, her thumbs hooking underneath the bands of her shorts.
Okay, maybe we can be friends, Vi thinks, a breath getting caught in her throat as she leans forward.

Vi had always been powerfully built, her body threaded with muscles that wrapped tightly around each limb; now she was broad, burly, her muscles big and strong and soft all at once. She was the same Vi with the same tattoos and the same short hair pushed back from her forehead, but the woman in front of Caitlyn had this new, large presence that seemed to pull everything in the room towards her like the sun.

Suddenly the countdown began, it was a minute before the New Year. Vi was in pure bliss, waiting for the fireworks to light up the sky to bring in the new year. She was looking forward to seeing how the lights would reflect off the water. That’s when something caught her eye. Vi turned her head to the left, gazing down the bridge. She was stunned, standing frozen in place and not able to take her eyes away.
Midnight blue hair that gently fell over her shoulders, cerulean eyes, and the most perfect smile that Vi had ever seen, even with that smile slightly blocked by a cupcake held up to this woman’s mouth. The woman was walking in Vi’s direction but hadn’t noticed her. She was mid conversation with another woman who was beside her, clinging to a taller man’s arm as they walked. This cerulean eyed woman was the most beautiful person Vi had ever seen. Vi only then realized the roar of the crowd around her.
“Five! Four! Three! Two!”
The woman was about to walk past Vi, her eyes never meeting hers. But something inside Vi snapped. She reached out, her fingers brushing the woman's arm. Their eyes met as Vi pulled her in, a split-second decision that felt both impulsive and inevitable.
