“I wanted to see you!” she cried in a sudden frenzy. “I wanted to see you but I didn’t so I hid in the Special Class block because I was scared! Look at you! This is you! On the path… on the path! You know, I was saying the parable of the Sower to myself just now, before the major came into my room? I was! I was! And then I was saying it as I crossed the courtyard to your barrack! Why did I come here? I don’t know! Rodya, dear Rodion Romanych… Saint!… why are you so ashamed?”

Summary
Dmitri Prokofich Razumikhin comes to St. Petersburg with dreams.
He is absolutely laden with dreams. His pockets veritably spill over with them. He is optimistic and he is hopeful. His bag is filled with threadbare clothes and the few books that he could afford, but other than that, every other remaining space is crammed full with his own hopes.
St. Petersburg takes all of them away.

Summary
Over the door, however, there was one of strange and rather striking shape; it was six or seven feet in length, and not more than a foot in height. It represented the Saviour just taken from the cross.
The prince glanced at it, but took no further notice. He moved on hastily, as though anxious to get out of the house. But Rogozhin suddenly stopped underneath the picture. […]
"I like looking at that picture," muttered Rogozhin, not noticing, apparently, that the prince had not answered his question.
"That picture! That picture!" cried Myshkin, struck by a sudden idea. "Why, a man's faith might be ruined by looking at that picture!"
"So it is!" said Rogozhin, unexpectedly. (2.4.1-10)Bookmarked by maameladov

Lazarus After the Miracle by exlibrises

Summary
He looked around at the peeling walls. Frosted windows and old paintings, cheap reproductions of hailed masterpieces: Madonna of the Rosary, Raising of Lazarus, The Entombment of Christ. Birth, miracle, death, all made plainly visible on one wall. Dusty canvas, false brushstrokes which even still somehow evoked holy reverence, a frame that was ill-fitting for the magnitude of the work. Righteous Lazarus, the Four Days Dead, all the people who loved him and cried for him (Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”). Was it really such a miracle to be given a second chance?

Summary
Grushenka knew that the only right thing to do was to reassure Katerina Ivanovna that she had only ever received Mitya as a friend, and had no intention of getting in the way. Least of all now, after a certain letter from Siberia. It was time for the whole of her spiteful game to end here.
But once she had arrived there…well, everything had changed. And it was both good and bad at the same time.
Her musings were suddenly and abruptly cut short by a knock, Fenya’s rapid little steps, and then the sound of the front door opening. At that, there was a voice that had become very familiar, loudly carrying to every corner of her small house. And for some reason, the most irrepressible smile burst from her very heart at the sound…Mitya visits Grushenka at her place, and they discuss what occurred earlier that evening at Katerina Ivanovna’s.
A short little canon-compliant fic that takes place at the end of Part One in the original novel.

Summary
After a disappointing conclave, Vincent readies himself to return to Kabul, with an inkling that the true inheritor of the Papal Throne was not there.
He meets Aldo Bellini in the garden.
Thomas Lawrence haunts the narrative.
Bellini continues to talk. “From 20 to 24- that was when we knew each other. We were in seminary- he was always the one to pull me back from the edge of arguments. But Thomas,” His voice breaks on the name. “He was always so anxious. He struggled with doubt- more than I ever knew.”
“Fitting name, Thomas had.”
