For a moment, they were just quiet, listening to the distant hum of the base. Lando’s leg swung gently, brushing against the bed frame, and Oscar’s hand twitched slightly as if reaching for something — or maybe resisting. Neither spoke.
Then Oscar exhaled, a little heavier this time, and muttered, “Do you ever get scared?”
Lando froze mid-swing, caught off guard. “Scared? All the time,” he admitted quietly. “But… you can’t let it show. Not here. Not yet.”
Oscar nodded slowly, turning onto his back, staring at the ceiling. “Right. Show it later.”
A small, almost imperceptible bond had formed in that silence. Not loud, not declared, but present.

"Please stand back," the safety team member implored, the words carrying a weight of professionalism and a genuine concern for Lando's safety.
"Wait! I can't just stand here!" Lando's voice cracked with emotion, his hands, still trembling from the failed attempts to free Oscar, reached out as if trying to physically pull back the hands of time, but there was no reply.
All Lando could do was watch, as Oscar was gently extracted from the cockpit, relief washed over him as he observed the medical team securing Oscar onto a stretcher. They monitored vital signs, and Lando's anxiety lessened with each positive sign of life, he needed to be with him.

Oscar barely saw it coming his way, it came at him too suddenly, but that is no excuse, he trains his reflexes for a reason.
Later, reviewing the onboards and multiple track cameras, he’d learn that Max had swerved too close over the edge and displaced the debris. It bumped into the side of his car and the wind sent it flying backwards right onto Oscar’s path.
But that is at a later date, right now Oscar tries to swerve to avoid the mysterious object.
And he fails.
