Summary
Arthur ain’t no craftsman.
Yeah, he can chip away at a rock and wrap it around a stick then call it an arrow, and he can weave a basket and, sure, he can tie up a piece of line to any broken branch and head on down to the lake with the world’s most God awful fishing pole, but the truth still stands.
If Arthur had to choose between crafting someone an item and not having it fall apart after its first use, or getting shot in the mouth…Well, then, Arthur’s making sure that bullet goes straight through his throat and out the back of his head.
So why, in God’s green Earth, is Arthur making a new bow for Charles after he broke his old one?
Or: Arthur just loves Charles so much.

Summary
Arthur knows he and holiness are strangers, so maybe it’s some kind of blasphemy that being here with Charles feels like baptism. Not in any literal sense, of course, ‘cause eventually they will trudge out the river, back to old boots and old habits, and he’ll be the same bad man he’s always been.

Summary
He looked incredulous as he pulled out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his forehead, and haphazardly shoved it back in his pocket. It was greyed with age, faded designs, and beaded flowers at the end.
At the bottom of the stairs, Charles stopped dead, realisation hitting him like a loaded gun.--------
A pretty loose companion piece to "Ten-Cent Adventures"Another chance meeting between the boys in their 20's
Very pre-canon, no real plot.

Summary
“It’ll be a miracle if he makes it through the night.” The doctor had said when he’d finally finished, wiping sweat from his brow and blood off his hands. “It might be best to make some plans with the undertaker.”
Charles refused.
And Arthur made it through.
------In which Charles defies his better judgment, and Arthur defies death, and it's worth it to be a fool.

Summary
Spring in Lamarch comes slowly, slowly, and then all at once, creeks unfreezing and spilling ice water down from the mountains, turning the forest and farmland into a sodden, vibrant mess. The sweet, lime green of new growth traces its way through the waking countryside, leaving in its wake vallies bursting with wildflowers and budding trees. By early April, daffodils and crocus are exploding in heavy clutches along the road leading into town.

Summary
The red that Arthur would normally call beautiful - like a field of roses, or sunrises early mornings down in Strawberry - was now an ugly, jarring contrast against the Arabian's pure coat.
"Charles, what- what do I do?" His hands slipped against her skin - slick with blood.

It was a nice respite, Arthur thinks, watching Charles stand, the glint of the sun in his dark hair, his eyes far away, considering, but it wasn’t ever meant to last.

Summary
He’d tried, in the end, he really had. And it had been hard; so damn hard. Would’ve been so much easier to crawl off into the woods like a dying dog and let himself be reclaimed by the wilderness. But, getting them folks out, sending them to safety, doing his best to protect them from the Pinkertons and Dutch’s lunacy and that rat...
For maybe the first time in his life, there was no doubt in his mind about what was right or wrong, good or evil. He just knew.
The sunlight warms his face, and he smiles.
But then he hears footsteps.

Meanwhile, Charles Smith can’t stop looking back at the mountains to the south, and wondering what it means to be home.

Summary
Arthur Morgan never cared much for the whole soulmate business. Like many others, who would marry and have children with someone who didn't match their mark, he was perfectly content forgetting that his soulmark was even there. No use pining after one supposed person who you might never even meet, who might be halfway across the planet for all you know, who might be better off not getting involved with you and your kin at all.
Which is why he didn't notice, at first, when his soulmark changed.

Summary
Beneath the warm scent of sunshine and grass, between the notes of its natural musk, a delicate fragrance clung to its fur. Charles couldn’t quite place it, and with another thoughtful inhale, he turned his face to follow the refreshing notes of citrus-y sweetness and stepped closer to the horse’s withers.
“You smell nice,” Charles said. Then, with another lungful of the sweet air that surrounded Arthur, he pondered the notes of the scent with a thoughtful quirk of an eyebrow. His thoughts couldn’t settle upon an answer, though, when his attention piqued back to Arthur as the man—face flushing, bashful and pretty in the dusting of pink upon his cheeks—ducked his chin to get a whiff of himself.
--
In which Arthur finds a lilac bush to nap under, and its scent clings to him. When he takes too long bringing some of its flowers back for Mary-Beth and Tilly, they send Charles out after him. And Arthur finds he doesn't mind sharing the little slice of peace he found there with Charles.

Summary
Charles sits down next to him, his shoulder gently bumping into Arthur’s. He appreciates the contact, touch like this being a rare occurrence, even though it sends a jolt of pain through his aching body, even if Charles probably shouldn’t be this close to him.
He should tell him. Tell him that he's sick, tell him to keep his distance so he doesn't catch it - but can't bring himself to. He will, eventually, but not here, where other people could be listening, not now, when he's just barely caught his breath.
As selfish as it might be, Arthur simply wants to stay close to Charles for a little while longer.
___Arthur’s sick. Lovesick, too, as he and Charles share a quiet moment in Beaver Hollow.

Summary
“My dear boy, no ‘red blooded male’ looks at another man’s derriere the same way you were looking at that stable hand yesterday. Not that I blame you, those leather chaps were quite something. And I assure you, it’s nothing to be ashamed of! God made man and woman, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with partaking in the delights of both!”
Arthur would very much like the ground to open up beneath him and just swallow him whole, please and thank you.
(Or: Trelawny takes it upon himself to assist Arthur with his love life. Arthur does not get a say in the matter.)

Summary
Tonight, Abigail’s being funny. Only John don’t know what kinda funny she’s being.
“Walk me down to the lake, will ya, John,” she demands, too straightforward to be a request.
“What for?” He awkwardly stares at the ground, making a point not to look at the sliver of soft cleavage bared by her blouse. She’d caught him staring once while she was bent over the wash bin and quickly landed a knee to his groin, scolding him about respecting ladies even if you paid for them.
“I need to wash,” she replies cattily as if his questioning of her is the greatest offense he could commit. Her hand rests expectantly on her jutted-out hip while the other holds a bucket.
“You can’t go by yerself?” John disinterestedly raises his brow. Expecting a good telling-off, he is surprised by a laugh.
“Clearly, you ain’t never been a woman out in the woods alone,” she snorts real ugly. The noise has him feeling stupid.
“Ask Arthur. Or Tilly or Karen,” John says, leaving out anyone but me
—
A trip down to the lake involves more than John bargained for, but he's never been particularly good at denying pretty girls like Abigail.Bookmarked by madeofflowerpetals
