Summary
It's a Wonderful Life AU in which Derek wishes he were never born, Stiles is angel who sets out to show him just how terrible that would be, and things turn out far better than anyone could've expected.

“Yeah,” he says, rolling his eyes. “You’re right, Stiles. Maybe it’d just be better if I was never born at all.”
“Hmm,” Stiles says. “Huh.” He starts talking to the ceiling again, and Derek’s seriously beginning to wonder if this guy escaped from Eichen. “You think that would work? Hmm. Yeah, I getcha. Alright.” He looks back at Derek. “You’ve got your wish.”
“What?”
“You’ve never been born."
“You’re crazy,” Derek huffs. “Absolutely out of your mind.”
“The jury’s still out on that one,” Stiles says, shrugging. “But I suggest you take a quick look in the mirror.”
Derek’s reluctant to look away from a potential hunter, but what he sees when he glances over is enough to make him full-on turn his back to the man. He staggers forward and grabs at the sink, using it to hold himself up.
His eyes are glowing gold.
Not red. Not even blue.
Gold.

Summary

"Becoming a wolf is a serious, life long, commitment. Not some quick fix to make it so Stiles quits drinking and taking drugs. Derek's, his mother died! He's grieving! I know it's not healthy, but it's normal!"

Or...Stiles and Derek are closer in age and their families have been friends for a long time. Derek and Stiles used to be close friends until Derek started high school and his reputation became everything. Claudia dies when Stiles is a freshman and the Sheriff keeps it under wraps as best as he can, so Derek doesn't find out until later when it becomes public.
By then...Stiles has fallen into the wrong crowd. Sex, drugs, drinking...oddly enough it's not destructive. Stiles becomes a cool kid on his own terms. Derek's just having a hard time because for so long Stiles idolized him. Now...Stiles doesn't need him.

Stiles was blushing, hard. Because being calling pretty is one of the best compliments ever. Being called pretty feels like being compared to a rose or a sunset or something equally as cheesy and pleasing, and this guy that Stiles doesn't even know is saying something that nice to him. He would think it was creepy but Stiles started it and it was obvious the guy is pretty much a gum drop after he said "I drink a lot of green tea."

derek gets drunk and decides to send an ab pic to his ex.. instead of an angry reply he gets a picture of a hot mole splattered torso instead, a conversation ensues.

By eight o’clock, Derek has begun playing on his phone, because really, who could judge him harder at this point? Besides, it’s better than exchanging looks with Puppy Dog Eyes.
He’s just leveled up in Candy Crush when someone practically bursts in through the front doors.
“Oh my gosh,” the man says loudly. It’s not enough to silence the restaurant, but it does make most of the patrons glance over. “I am so sorry. I’m here for dinner with Mr. Hale,” he tells the maître d’, and that certainly catches Derek’s attention. “The reservation should be in his name. Is he even here still?”
“Erm, yes, Mr…” the man behind the desk says, and Derek can easily picture his disapproving frown.
“Stilinski.”
