Val and Vel both stare at him, dumbfounded.
They share a look with each other, just as confused as him. Vel clears her throat. “The Radio Demon?” she tries, like he should recognize it.
He doesn’t.
“Radio?” Vox furrows his brow, thinking. “Kind of outdated, isn’t it? Aren’t we in the modern era of television right now?” He makes a wide sweeping gesture. “Out with the old, in with the new!”

“Well,” Val hums in his earpiece. “The treatment made sure his senses would be far more enhanced than that of a regular super soldier. He’s got a damn good nose.”
“Yeah, sure, but he’ll also be in rut,” he reminds her.
“Then he’ll definitely find you. Besides, don’t all alphas like a good hunt? Chasing? Digging for a bone?” She laughs. “Think of it like that.”

The Watchtower isn’t exactly a five-star hotel, but out of all the places in New York for their alternate dimensional allies—because nothing brings people closer together than a common enemy, one big enough to apparently devour entire planets—to stay in, well.
It was a good temporary fix.

John pants, supporting himself on the side of the tank. His clothes are sopping wet and clinging to his back, a heavy weight making it hard to keep afloat.
Sharp teeth retract back into pink gums, gold eyes returning to a placid blue and peeking over the water at him. Bob goes from predator to curious creature in the span of seconds, head tilting to the side and blinking.
Whatever the fuck that thing is, John thinks, pressing himself up against the glass, it’s not a mermaid, that’s for goddamn sure.
or, John is the new night guard and Bob is the local aquarium’s most recent attraction.
