Facing up to Traci at Oblivion's Pride Night and apologizing for how idiotically Nat had dumped her had been...tough. But Traci had accepted her apology, and said they should hang out.
And then Superhero Bullshit(TM) had happened, and Magic Bullshit(TM) had happened, for weeks and weeks. They've had to postpone said hangout four times. But this is the day. There's no magic green goop raining from the sky. There's no alien despots or billionaires punching their way through Metropolis. Not a single person has suddenly turned into a furry. Nat is determined to be normal about hanging out with her funny, smart, brilliant ex. Whom she is definitely over.
She'll be fine. They'll be fine. Hopefully.

Kal-El is not a superstitious man, but he has made it a habit to pause his work at high noon, and offer a prayer of gratitude to Rao. He sees his parents every day. He walks among the statues of his ancestors, where he knows he belongs. He finds purpose and fulfillment studying the intricacies of Krypton's flora and fauna, absorbing every detail of the miraculous life of his home. And beside him in all these things is his husband, Brus Wayn-El, who loves him, and allows Kal to love him in turn.
By any rational measure his life is ideal. Every now and again, though, there is a baseless melancholy that comes over him. An ache in his chest. A longing for the sky. A restless feeling he should, somehow, be doing more.

Summary
Clark has accepted what it means to be Lex's prisoner - the pain of the Green, the experiments, the hands on it. The long years buried in its containment cell, let out only to act as Lex's weapon, as Lex's tool. It had fought back at first, but years have ground it down and away to almost nothing.
Then Lex hands it a baby. And Clark realizes that while it may have hurt humans, and lied about what it is, and it may deserve to be locked away - Kon deserves to be free.

The purr is called urvishulahdh. The cultural anthology tells him that it can be used to calm children, or even as a self-soothing mechanism, but it is most common between family members as an expression of contentment, tranquility, peace.
Clark stares at the 3D anatomy diagram of the throat, the auxiliary vocal cords layered underneath the human-like main set, as they slowly vibrate, and asks the Fortress in halting Kryptonian to play the associated audio.
Kryptonians purr. Clark purrs, and then doesn't. Until he needs to.
