Gerard laughs, a real one, and Frank feels a queasiness that he can’t attribute to anything concrete. “What are we, five? You act like we were Montagues and Capulets. It’s fine, we can try to be friends.”
“Cool.” Frank pauses. “By the way, about the call earlier – Geoff wouldn’t let me fire you. But, like, I hope that can turn out to be a good thing. As much as I hate to admit it…”
He trails off. Gerard raises his eyebrows. “Yes?”
“God, I don’t want to say it. But I guess it’s objectively true that working with you would probably make my book better.”
Gerard laughs again. “It sure as hell can’t make it worse. I did read your manuscript, it’s awful.”
“Hey, okay. I thought we called a truce.”
“For now,” Gerard says lightly.

critically celebrated chef/restaurateur frank iero has submitted a manuscript for his upcoming cookbook. the problem? it's terrible. his editor pairs him with a ghostwriter to fix and prepare the book for release, but when frank finds out it's gerard way, his old culinary school classmate and acclaimed food critic who once trashed him in a review, he's certain it'll be a shitshow. after all, they have a history. -

three cheers for sweet revenge by my chemical romance is a concept album, and for their fall musical in their last year at riverdale high, a rare collaboration between jughead jones and kevin keller leads to whatever the hell this is. loosely set during the beginning of riverdale’s fourth season, but also somehow during the 2022 my chemical romance return tour. -

There’s a brief moment of silence, of recognition, of oh shit oh fuck, before Frank says, “Gerard, hey. Long time, no see.”
A little voice in Gerard’s head starts screaming, telling him things like say something and remember how to talk and god he looks so fucking good and shut up and reply to him, but what ends up tripping its way out of Gerard’s mouth is, “Oh, um. Frank, I – toothpaste.”
For half a second, Frank looks like he’s about to laugh, but whether he actually was going to, Gerard doesn’t find out. Before Frank can say anything else at all, Gerard says, “Shit,” and leaves.
He’s halfway home before he realizes that not only is he the biggest idiot to ever walk the earth, but he also didn’t even get his fucking toothpaste.

Frank doesn’t know how to respond for a moment. The surprise of Gerard delivering an at least halfway formed plan in the same conversation as it’s introduced is enough that it renders him nearly speechless, and he says, “Wait – fucking. What?”
