After locking up, the question bubbles out of Benson’s chest like a belch, bleach flavored. The store key’s still in the lock and for once the exhaustion in his bones has beaten out the shrieking air raid sirens that've been howling in Benson's skull since his childhood. So Benson just does, no forethought or deeper examination involved. Allows himself the mercy of not looking too closely at why he’d ever think getting Bradley liquor loose and pliable would end up well for either of them.
“You wanna go get a beer?” A pause, the store key halfway turned into the locking position. He flicks it over the rest of the way to avoid having to go back inside and rearm the security system. “You old enough to even fuckin’ drink?”

Summary
The cloth in his hand slid across the mottled, sun-bleached top of the table closest to the window as clattering sounds resounded from the kitchen, almost deafened by a gaggle of teenagers who were throwing fries at each other. Something had been dropped back there, probably a spatula, and for a moment Benson retreated from the confines of the kitchen and approached Donnie at the till. His face was red and angry. He clearly wasn’t as enthused about not being at home as Randy was.
Benson’s eyes rose momentarily. He looked tired, and more importantly, directly at Randy as the cloth stopped moving on the table and all of the breath that had been inside of Randy’s body suddenly vacated that space.

Benson stares hard enough that the demon must feel it and stares back. He freezes, like an animal, unsure what to do with an angel looking at him like Benson is surely looking at him - like he’s dissecting each hollowed out, sludge-filled vein to figure out what in the literal Hell fashioned him.
Desire Incarnate, as he’s referred to by Benson’s superiors. The fire he causes burns for six days and then some.

Summary
Benson never dies at the diner, instead Randy's tear-streaked face and strained voice is able to get through to him, sending the two racing away from the crime scene in a blur of numbness and anxiety. This spur of the moment decision leaves Randy isolated in a motel with the other, drowning in his guilt but not regret. For some reason Randy can't bring himself to regret what he believes was saving Benson's life.

“You look very snug,” Lawrence says fondly, setting his cane down and taking a seat next to where Adam is lying. “Like a big burrito.”
He kisses the pile of blankets that Adam is buried under, right at the point where he must guess Adam’s head is.
Adam pokes his face out, looking at the older man with tearful eyes.
He must look like shit. He hasn’t showered, or put on deodorant, or brushed his hair. He knows his eyes must look puffy and his nose must be runny and his cheeks must be red from all the crying.
“Oh, sweetheart,” Lawrence says softly. “It’s been one of those days, huh?”
Adam doesn’t know what he finds more comforting. The fact that Lawrence immediately understands without Adam explaining himself, or the fact that Lawrence called him sweetheart.
OR
Five times Lawrence called Adam a pet name, and one time Adam did the same to Lawrence.
