He takes the children to buy black suits, he leaves them behind in the apartment, twelve-year-old A-Huan assuring him he’s old enough to be left alone with his brother, to go to their house and oversee it being packed up, the furniture sold, the personal effects of his brother and his wife put in storage.
There’s no room for decisions or education. Only him sitting at his table with two children, eating in silence, only hearing A-Huan whispering to his brother in the middle of the night, only the three of them all tangled up together with grief and confusion and pain.
And the certainty that he isn’t… that he won’t be a good parent.

Summary
Lan Wangji expected to spend a lifetime in mourning. A long horrid life alone in his home waiting to die so he could see Wei Ying again and maybe this time actually say those words and hear a response that wasn’t tainted in blood. What Lan Wangji expected for himself was to be lonely and to live with hole eating away in his chest till death finally graced him. What he expected was for the ice that coated his heart to forever remain with only his family able to touch him.
But then Mo Xuanyu happened and now Lan Wangji was confused. He was confused and scared because as the saying went a Lan loved but once yet here was a man that was drawing him out from behind the walls he’d built up. Someone who was warm and bright and it hurt. It hurt in every sense.

Neither his uncle nor brother had a pet, and he doubted they would pressure him into having one. If the most he ever saw of what pets did was glimpses of the fancy clothing they wore, he would be happy.

‘What,’ Jiang Cheng snaps, and then he yawns. He hadn’t managed to get much sleep last night for reasons unknown, and because of that, is crankier than normal. Wei Ying isn’t helping matters. ‘What are you doing.’
Because Wei Ying is nosing him all over, licking at Jiang Cheng’s ears before circling around him twice and plopping down, curled around Jiang Cheng neatly.
And he fucking hates it, because Wei Wuxian envelops him almost completely, and he hates it because it also makes him feel warm and safe and other things he associates with Wei Ying but would never say out loud, even on the pain of death.
‘What’s wrong, A-Cheng,’ Wei Ying says quietly, and his paw bats at Jiang Cheng’s side comfortingly. ‘You’re angrier than usual.’
‘No thanks to you,’ Jiang Cheng says, and snaps his jaw near Wei Ying’s neck. The threat has long since stopped being...threatening, and Wei Ying merely huffs as he licks Jiang Cheng’s nose.

Lan Zhan huffs at Wei Ying’s dramatics, then groans happily as a tentacle pushes into his ass with a smooth thrust. “Foolish,” he gasps around the next thrust.
Wei Ying growls and dulls his teeth so he can bite down Lan Zhan’s throat, sucking hard until rose and violet bruises bloom across Lan Zhan’s skin. Lan Zhan can’t help the rush of bemused fondness that overtakes him.
“Is Wei Ying trying to prove his territory to a dildo?”
