Summary
In a society where people with magic are considered to be dangerous, are labelled as freaks, and have their powers cut off from them, Merlin does whatever he can to survive the hard life he’s faced with. Summary
It’s been over a year and a half since Arthur died. Or, more accurately, woke up. Technically, he dies in eight and a half years. Well, if he messes up, that is, and he is determined not to.
But Arthur feels the grip of the king tightening with every passing day. Morgana’s magic grows under a father that would not accept it. And if his growing attachment to Guinevere would only bring more harm to her than good, then it should be best to let her go.
Merlin, of course, is of no help while Arthur continues to keep the secret of his resurrection. But should Merlin find out, he fears that his friend will be too young to understand his actions.
So Arthur waits. For it is written that the Once and Future King will take his throne. He only has to decide when.

This story was inspired by the thought of Prince William of Wales (and indeed the current Max von Hapsburg) studying at the University of St Andrews; it is also, as the title suggests, at least a little inspired by the operetta 'The Student Prince'.

::2019 note: This story was written BEFORE the TV show introduced the character of Gwaine. It's not that I can't spell, or that I'm perversely writing him out of character - I incorporated other characters from Arthurian legend (Kay, Gawain etc) into my story, and lacking prophetic abilities, my versions naturally don't mesh with the versions subsequently introduced into the show.::

Summary
It's hard enough being a powerful sorcerer in Camelot, but being in love with the Crown Prince has its downsides. More than anything else, Merlin wants to earn Arthur's respect, yet without his magic he is nothing. Summary
After losing Arthur, Merlin semi-accidentally travels back in time. In an attempt to change the future, Merlin takes Morgana under his wing and trains her in magic, all the while trying to pretend he's not still in love with an Arthur who doesn't remember that they used to be married (in the future, that is), keeping an eye out for Morgause, and juggling Camelot's run of the mill crises. You know, the usual manservant stuff.
