Summary
Wednesday.
She didn't know much, but this... word... rang out in her head. It was the name that sprang to mind when she saw the dark figure approaching her—dark coat, twin braids, fierce eyes. Wednesday.
The girl—Wednesday—spotted her, and her face broke into undisguised relief. "Enid..."
And she felt her mouth move of its own accord, stretching out vocal cords that were scratchy from disuse, simply to voice out one question.
"Who's... Enid..?"

Summary
there was something almost poetic about the way it disappeared. it sated itself with the mere act of existing. enid would admire it, perhaps even envy it, if existing was something she desired.
instead, enid admired those swans she had once read about, the ones that soared high and let themselves fall without flying. she doubted that story was true, but the idea sounded nice.

“Really, though,” Enid says. “Why’d you call?”
Wednesday pauses. Enid’s phone is pressed so closely to her ear that she can hear the ebb and flow of Wednesday’s breath, an unending tide. Unthinkingly, Enid’s lungs slow to match hers.
“Morbid curiosity,” Wednesday says eventually. “I’m afraid I’ve become a slave to my own human desires.”
“And that means…?”
“I’d forgotten what your voice sounded like.”

The quiz is a disaster. Wracking her head for any nuggets of information she can remember from the lecture that week, she can barely piece together what the questions are asking before the time is called.
Her lab partner, on the other hand, is the first to finish, figure moving as smoothly as blades across ice to the front of the room, placing her paper down with a decisive flutter and returning to her seat, hands crossed in front of her as she waits for everyone else to catch up.
It doesn’t annoy Enid, the elegance with which the girl holds herself. It’s more…intrigue, she supposes.
