“Does this story have a point?” Eddie questioned, Lena narrowing her eyes at him.
“This guy, my sort of friend—what if he could watch Chris for you?”
Eddie furrowed his brows together. “You want me to leave my kid who’s halfway across the country with some—stranger?”
“It beats having him sent home to your parents, right?”
Well, she had a point there.
Eddie shook his head, overwhelmed with his thoughts.
“Look, I appreciate it Bosko, but I just—I don’t know. This is my kid we’re talking about.”
“I know that, and I know how much you love him. Hell, you’ve sent me ten plus emails when I was watching him for you.”
Eddie looked to where there was a line coming out of their commanders office. He turned to Lena, giving his full attention.
“Alright, tell me about this friend of yours.”

The one where Eddie’s in the army, Shannon gives up her rights to Chris, and Eddie needs a babysitter. Good thing Lena knows Buck, the guy having nothing better to do than help babysit until Eddie gets back. Eddie would come home, and he would leave; it wasn’t like they were going to build some lifetime friendship or anything.

"One final thing, Mr. Buckley,” the building manager says, flipping through the immediate tenancy release forms Buck has just signed. “Do you have a place to stay for the night? We’re working with the Red Cross to offer emergency accommodation for those who need it.”
“He’ll stay with me until everything is sorted out.” Eddie doesn’t hesitate. It won’t be the first time they’ve lived together. They spent months crammed into Buck’s tiny apartment with Hen and Chimney during lockdown.
Buck looks at him and doesn’t say anything but Eddie can see the question in his eyes, are you sure?
Eddie meets his gaze, places a hand on his shoulder, and squeezes, always.

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

The door swings open, as a man’s voice snaps “What?”
“It’s great that you and your girlfriend have such a good sex life,” Eddie starts, “Good for you, but are you aware that you have neighbors? I honestly don’t care what you do, but your room is right up against my kid’s, and I do not want him hearing the two of you going on all night like that, okay?”
“Oh god,” comes a low, appropriately horrified voice, and Eddie actually bothers to look up and make proper eye contact.
He’s tall, the neighbor, a bit taller than Eddie, and broad. His light brown hair is in dishevelled curls, he’s blinking blue eyes a little blearily, and he looks mortified, flushed a light pink all over.

This whole thing is Bobby's fault. He's the one that suggested Eddie apply for the mate matching service, it was his idea to look for an Omega that would love and care for Christopher, to find a mate to be by Eddie's side.
Eddie's gonna have to send him a fruit basket or something. It was the greatest idea Bobby's ever had and because of it they now they have Buck in their lives, in their pack and firmly nestled right in Eddie's heart.

“I asked you to do one thing. Talk to him. Make him stay. You couldn’t even do that! You claim you want to fix shit but you never fucking do it when it counts. You probably half assed the conversation with him so you can get home to your precious Tommy. God what did I even call you for?”
The silence was deafening. They stared at each other. Eddie was trying to slow his breathing. He could feel a panic attack coming. This wasn’t how he spoke to Buck. This wasn’t how he spoke to anyone. This wasn’t him. Half of him was begging Buck to leave. The other half was begging him to please stay. You know this isn’t me. You know me better than anyone.
Buck stood. He grabbed his jacket and keys and started walking to the door. Eddie's eyes went to the floor then. Buck stopped right next to him. He could see him in his peripheral vision.
“I guess you won't make the mistake of calling me again will you?” Buck whispered. He stood a foot away from him and he could barely hear him.
Eddie held his breath as Buck walked over to the door. He held it until he heard the door click shut.
His knees gave out and he collapsed to the floor.
