“Yes, in fact…" The corners of his lips quirk up, daringly, that small smile a challenge. "I haven’t been able to ask in a while, for the obvious reasons of course, but-”
“No.” The dagger breaks skin, tiny pinpricks of blood welling atop his neck. “Shut up. Shut up.”
“Just grant me this one question. Would you, Boldheart, do me the honor of-”
“Stop,” the vampire hisses, disbelief evident in his widened eyes.
“Let me take you-”
“You can’t be serious.”
“Dead serious,” his hunter replies, humor dancing across his face.
“You’re not funny.”
“Then why haven’t you killed me yet?”
“It’s been a boring year,” Ballister grits out, “You’re the only entertaining thing around here.”

Ballister wraps Ambrosius’s hair around his fist as he straddles his lap, slamming his hand down to the ground and bringing Ambrosius’s head with it. There’s not much Ambrosius can do to get out of the situation—his sword is out of reach, and there’s a fluttering in his chest from the exertion of the fight. Though, there’s also the fact that Ballister is looking at him like that, skin flushed with a drop of sweat trailing downwards on his throat that disappears under black plates of armor. Hot air from Ballister’s breaths warm Ambrosius’s face, and the heat in Ballister’s eyes changes from anger to a different kind of intensity.Series

Summary
Sirius studied Remus’ face. He was curious what he thought of all of this, the only one of them who didn’t have a mark– theoretically– and the only one with a muggle parent. Muggles didn’t get marks, he knew. If Remus’ parents were soulmates, then they wouldn’t know it. He wondered if there was a way to tell, though. If they could just feel it, somehow, even without the help of some magical fate.
Because it seemed like something you would just know, just from being near someone, from being close enough to them, from being in the same space. Like their souls would attract like magnets or like water droplets traveling down a window, waiting to merge until the last moment when they realized they were on the same path, and then they’d become one.
Was that fate, Sirius wondered?
He realized Remus was staring back at him, his eyes puzzled and curious and warm.
Sirius looked away first and didn’t look back, pushing down something heavy and impossible in his chest.
