Summary
Sirius studied Remus’ face. He was curious what he thought of all of this, the only one of them who didn’t have a mark– theoretically– and the only one with a muggle parent. Muggles didn’t get marks, he knew. If Remus’ parents were soulmates, then they wouldn’t know it. He wondered if there was a way to tell, though. If they could just feel it, somehow, even without the help of some magical fate.
Because it seemed like something you would just know, just from being near someone, from being close enough to them, from being in the same space. Like their souls would attract like magnets or like water droplets traveling down a window, waiting to merge until the last moment when they realized they were on the same path, and then they’d become one.
Was that fate, Sirius wondered?
He realized Remus was staring back at him, his eyes puzzled and curious and warm.
Sirius looked away first and didn’t look back, pushing down something heavy and impossible in his chest.

Top singles player Sirius Black is known for his un-returnable serve, razor-sharp cheekbones, and killer instincts. He's in the midst of a heated race for the year-end #1 spot and chasing the all-time title record. All of his free time should be spent on the practice court, not sitting front row of certain doubles matches just...glaring...for no discernible reason.
On an unrelated note, Remus Lupin is the world’s best doubles player with a penchant for wearing sinfully short shorts and winning title after title with his partner. His partner who is not Sirius Black.
Which is completely fine. Not an issue at all.

He's absolutely maddening. It happens every summer: this dance, this flirting that Remus has never quite managed to get to the bottom of. Either it's a complete wind-up and Sirius is even more of an entitled bully than Remus has always thought, or it's going to end with Remus letting Sirius bend him over the storage crates behind the catering tent one year. It's one or the other.
The boys spend a glorious long weekend together at Sirius's family estate in the height of summer.
